New Picard Trailer

Hmm. Having watched the trailer again now, I'm really not digging the design of La Sirena. Feels very Star Wars to me.

Note that a 20th Century human describes the replicator's martini as the "best" he's ever had. And he would never have had replicated food before.

But when every martini he has tastes exactly the same, I'll bet he goes back to thinking hand mixed is better.

Why is that? One, the future is malleable, as demonstrated by a bunch of time travel stories. Two, is it reasonable to expect the Federation to endure perfectly for 1000 years? Political powers will struggle with difficulties, and not just wars or threats of war. They will struggle with things differing points of view, management of resources, and solving problems.

Perhaps I am more cynical but I am wondering if expecting this Federation to survive intact for 1000 years to be reasonable?
I think it's partially nostalgia etc, watched star trek for decades it's always been a constant in my life, hope optimism etc even in the dark days of the DS9 and the Dominion war the Fed was always there. Yes there have been down times but this has an end feeling to it...a finality to what has gone before...maybe I'm reading too much into it:hugegrin:

That and it feels like they have lifted parts of this from Andromada...

I'm saying the clear intent of the replicator by the writer/producers in the early seasons was the "wow" factor. WOW! This can make any food I want all the time and it's delicious!

later on the, writers invented (and then utterly ran way with) the concept that replicated food and beverage is inferior.

It was a retcon.

What's that thing that looks vaguely like Deep Space Nine in the upper right at 1:50?

Kor

Also DSC season 2’s CG is better than anything ENT did.

Thats one opinion, While true some of the effects are better, planets, nebula etc. Ships are to dark and look fake, like a ST Online ship shine.. Some ships look good, like the Shenzou, but the Disco and Enterprise look like crap (Not design wise.. just what appears on screen)

I've changed my mind on the dead guy Seven is cradling in the trailer. I don't think it's Hugh. The guy in question seems to have curly hair, and Hugh very clearly has straight hair later in the trailer.

I don't think it's Icheb either though. I'm not sure who it is really.

It's another Trek Classic moment ...

He a Random Red Shirt.

They're wearing a red command uniform from the looks of it.

I disagree, they look nothing like STO's shine.

And being dark is realistic, depending on where they are in space.
This looks beautiful

I agree, some shots are good, That particular one I have as a BG on my current computer. But then you have..

.. what can you see and discern?

The Enterprise Texture is.. well horrindus.. and the shot is just a bunch of blue fairy dust motes

Anyways, I agree that some shots are good, but there's a Boatload, that are crap, and the TOS BOP in STP looks all kinda bad, hope that its not a final shot.

No, that's USS Discovery, thus very far from beautiful. But in this instance darkness is certainly an improvement, less you can see of that ship the better.

This appears to be a non-holographic screen. Also a political map.

More of the writing seen in the romulan prison seen at the Romulan settlement, so it's probably a new romulan script.

Riker's replicator has Orange TNG-ish LCARS, it's also similar in design to the replicator's on TNG era ships

Picard: Thank you for not trying to talk me out of all this.

Riker: Believe me, I know better. I outright called Starfleet Command instead, they should be beaming in any second to arrest you now.

Picard: :wah:

While it could be a red shirt, the Romulan prisoners and Androids are all wearing red jumpsuits, so I think it's more likely just a former drone. I'm definitely getting a freedom fighter/liberator vibe from Seven (after all, she says she helps people who don't have anyone else to help them), so I can see her being emotional over losing someone she was trying to save.

I'm reasonably sure it's not Hugh, as he's seen in the trailer wearing a guard's uniform (with a vaguely Romulan chest harness and the hexagonal badge).

The efficacy of the replicator changed over time. In the first few seasons of TNG, it was meant to be a miracle invention that created perfect, delicious food 100% of the time. Note that a 20th Century human describes the replicator's martini as the "best" he's ever had. And he would never have had replicated food before.

His taste buds were still frozen. ;)
