New Picard Trailer

Everyone seems to have a hang-up on people with access to advanced kitchen tech "regressing" to what appears to be 21st century surroundings (Kirk, Picard, Riker). Ignoring the fact that these kitchens are probably incredibly advanced, compared to our own... perhaps we should examine the evidence and go with a new perspective: replicator food SUCKS!!

These poor people spent how many years / decades on a starship which, by its very circumstances, has limited rations. Even their drinks are stripped of alcohol, for frak's sake! (synthehol is the CBD of drinks...). I'd be the first person scrambling off the ship to make myself an omelette with real, honest to goodness fresh eggs, cheese, and mushrooms -- including the smells and sounds as it cooks -- and chase it down with a bottle of quality Picard vintage cab (and other substances that hopefully, by the 24th century, are legal everywhere...).

So, I'm all for the retro-kitchen look. Some things change over the centuries and millennia -- cooking is probably the one thing that has changed the least.
Makes you wonder who does the cooking. We saw Riker cook for the crew once and everbody hated it except Worf who is the Mikey of Trek. He will eat anything put in front of him. Guess it's chocolate ever night at super. Unless Riker has gone back to pretending to be chief on the NX-01 to practice. Jason

"A cook is only as good as his ingredients."

This just proves my point. He only had access to really bad (or replicated) eggs, since they've been sitting in storage on a starship for months/years. Presumably, there's no chicken farm on the ship. Ergo, not fresh! As for Worf -- geez, the guy relishes live Gagh. Nuff said.

You mean like how the VW Bug and FORD Mustang are still a thing after 40 or 50 years.
Or how some folks are still using vehicles that are 70 or 80 years old.
(or building replicas)
One would think that shuttlecraft created a couple hundred years from now would be a lot more sturdy and last for a far longer period of time.
So there is an oldtimer meeting in SF where collectors brought their 150 year old shuttles? XD

Is anyone else a bit uneasy about the direction DIS is taking, with the Federation etc and that influencing how STP is going to go.

I mean is the STD future the pre ordained one for STP now so. Seems a bit grim....

I don't know. How much does the 13th Century have to do with the 21st? I like gothic design and the medieval period is the backbone of a lot of fantasy, but otherwise...

Yep. And most folks have microwaves (in log cabins too), yet still enjoy meals out of a conventional oven. Humans don’t really change.
Perhaps we need to look to Spock for the answer:
SPOCK: There are many who are uncomfortable with what we have created. It is almost a biological rebellion. A profound revulsion against the planned communities, the programming, the sterilised, artfully balanced atmospheres. They hunger for an Eden where spring comes.

The question becomes which one is worse: Data's hair in Picard or William Shatner's in the early-'70s?
equal i would say, although i didn't like shatners 80's hair much better. and that monstrosity in 79 he wore for the motion picture can only be described as a "patty"

In fairness, judging by pictures I've seen, almost everyone had terrible hair in the early-'70s. So I don't even know if it should really count, now that I think about it.
