New Picard Trailer

So what’s with Rikers primitive looking house. I’ve seen more advanced looking home interior and exteriors in the mid 20th century homes. It reminds me of Kirks cabin interior. To go from the advanced enterprise to a crappy looking house is terrible. I do hope that Riker is still in Starfleet. His career was everything to him as Picards was.

Riker is originally from Alaska. I guess in his old age he wanted to get back to Nature. Or maybe that's actually Betazed.

Oh, and per the ComiCon panels, Riker and Troi have left Starfleet.

All the grumbling about the Bird of prey is kind of surprising. It’s a space craft, if the design worked previously, other than modernizing the guts of it, what’s wrong with re-issuing a old design? We’re getting ready to go back to the moon with a updated design of the old Apollo capsules, why can’t they do the same thing?

Wouldn’t be the first time that someone surrounded by high tech their entire life went troglodyte upon retirement. I plan on doing a similar thing in 15 years or so.

But in 24/25th century terms he is barely middle aged....

Because this is a Trek forum and people gotta find something to bitch about that they perceived violates Roddenberry’s “vision”.

There are hundreds of possible explanations that could rationalize it, some of which have been expressed here already. Haters gonna hate no matter what.

And people's priorities change. A good friend of mine was dedicated to going into the medical field, even if it bent having no family life. Over time, and 4 years of college, she changed her mind and got married. Riker clearly had a change of heart, or perhaps had his fill of adventure on the Titan and decided to retire.

People change.

Also, I would love to have Riker's house. What's so crappy about it?

Crappy is subjective. I like it. Maybe Riker does too.

Everyone seems to have a hang-up on people with access to advanced kitchen tech "regressing" to what appears to be 21st century surroundings (Kirk, Picard, Riker). Ignoring the fact that these kitchens are probably incredibly advanced, compared to our own... perhaps we should examine the evidence and go with a new perspective: replicator food SUCKS!!

These poor people spent how many years / decades on a starship which, by its very circumstances, has limited rations. Even their drinks are stripped of alcohol, for frak's sake! (synthehol is the CBD of drinks...). I'd be the first person scrambling off the ship to make myself an omelette with real, honest to goodness fresh eggs, cheese, and mushrooms -- including the smells and sounds as it cooks -- and chase it down with a bottle of quality Picard vintage cab (and other substances that hopefully, by the 24th century, are legal everywhere...).

So, I'm all for the retro-kitchen look. Some things change over the centuries and millennia -- cooking is probably the one thing that has changed the least.

Presumably the starships are not just built in certain shape on a whim. Different technology necessitates a different looking hull. And I am certain it is meant to be an old ship, they would have chosen different look otherwise.

Is anyone else a bit uneasy about the direction DIS is taking, with the Federation etc and that influencing how STP is going to go.

I mean is the STD future the pre ordained one for STP now so. Seems a bit grim....

Log homes are a thing.
