Senate removal is another matter. At least, you get to pull him down a notch. After all, Obama never got impeached.
That's a good point but it feels like forever for the Dems to get off their collective arse..
Scott Morrison will still probably kiss his ass even if he got impeached.
I suspect that any doubt about whether or not to impeach would be a political decision. If the Dems impeach Trump, would that have the opposite effect by rallying his base and lifting his vote?
I think it's past that point. Imagine how Trump would play it if, say, half the Democrats don't vote to impeach? It would be a clear case of a "witch-hunt! There was never really any truth to these charges! Look! Half the Democrats say I'm innocent! I'm good!"
Whereas, you peg him down. It becomes a part of history. And if the Dems play it like "If Trump is put in charge of the Presidency again, he is going to face the prospect of Senate removal. Do YOU want to vote for someone who could be removed in short-order?" Something like that.
I wonder if it isn't just a matter of timing now. If they delay the impeachment to early next year, make sure the evidence is unambiguous, then pass it off to the senate for hearings just as the election race is heating up so that Senate hearings are running right through the campaign. Then Republican Senators would have to justify their support for Trump despite the evidence. That would give them the chance to not just bring down Trump but potentially a number of Republicans as well.
