I really like the blue glow on the Enterprise's nacelles. It may be the only thing they changed I actively applauded because it both looked beautiful and made sense.

Despite it having become a Trek design staple - I really don't like the colour choice of nacelles having a red cap and a blue stripe. IMO it looks pretty stupid, and more like a light-up children's toy than an actual piece of technology.
I know the stripe was originally intended for the TOS enterprise as well, but I'm glad it never actually appeared. I really like the nacelles with only very few glowy parts (TOS enterprise, refit & movie era ships in general, JJprise, and, yes, the Discovery nacelles. VOY is also kinda' bearable, because the red dots are so small). It's the main thing I dislike about the Ent-D, which I think otherwise is a pretty gorgeous design.
As for the Discovery herself - she really has a few good angles! This is one. They should definitely have more beauty shots of her on the show! How a model is filmed is equally important as how it is designed - the Excelsior filming model looks IMO pretty lame. But on screen? It's an absolute beauty!

But seriously @Prax, I felt the same way about the Enterprise D at first. Looked like a big squat duck.
And Voyager's saucer reminded me of one of those elongated toilet seats, but I got used to her too.

I still think it looks top heavy and needs some nacelle lengthening. She looks pretty good in profile, but the iconic three-quarter view from the underside of the saucer doesn't do it for me at all.
Any of the Excelsior-class starships are better-looking than 90% of DSC's Starfleet designs. The Excelsior-class gave us the Enterprise-B, one of my favorites of all the Enterprises, so I can't complain too much.
I think this angle might be the first I saw of the D. Maybe another one with more of a side view.
I ended up liking it enough to buy 3 of the Galoob die-cast Enterprise D's, which were about 1/2" short of being in scale with the SFB & FASA miniatures, despite the D being very blue.
You'd think they would have gotten over the weird idea that any Enterprise was that blue outside of the Excelsior. Some of the 1970's AMT TOS Enterprise kits were molded in blue plastic too.

I will give the D this, though: The design recalls the original but really sells the notion that time has passed and things have changed. Now ships could be interchangeable between Discovery and stuff set well after TNG.

Actually the idea of a spaceship "looking" top heavy is a little silly, but yeah, the proportions felt strange at first.

I'd like it if they'd retcon the weird oblong shape of the D's saucer so that it's more round or stretched fore to aft, rather than port to starboard. That weird horizontal oval effect is now as much of an outlier as the smooth skin of the original 1701.

Did the Excelsior nacelle not glow on top in STIII (1984)?
I don't think it did. The Excelsior's warp nacelles didn't glow at all until "Flashback(VOY)" mistakenly retconned them as glowing blue.
