My cable company carries Comet and they show Babylon 5 a lot. Watching an episode now and for some reason decided to check IMDB. More actors from that show have died than I realized :(

But on a positive note I found out Peter Jurasik was in Tron. All the times I've watched Tron, including after B5, and I never realized it.

...as was Bruce Boxleitner, of course. PJ should have had a cameo in Tron Legacy.

Peter was also in and episode of Taxi. And I think he married Carla from Cheers who was Louie's sister?

Actually, she was Louie's girlfriend Zena on a few episodes of Taxi.

Okay, I just watched the first 4 seasons of B5. I am now trying to watch season 5. I find it kind of hard to get into. Really enjoy the first 4 seasons though. So new to this thread. I didn't read all 157 pages. I read a few. So hi. Let's talk B5!

    Hey hi.

What did you find so different about season 5?

Yeah Season 5 is kind of like a poorly executed epilogue. Unfortunately that’s because Season 5 was only picked up at the last minute, so Straczynski had already put the Earth Civil War story into Season 4, and really he was left with sub-plots to act as main plots. “Intersections In Real Time” was originally intended to be the Season 4 finale, with “Between The Darkness And The Light” was to be the Season 5 opener.

I think I'm one of the few people actually liked Season 5. It's not as good as Seasons 2 - 4, but I still enjoyed it. It is a bit of a step down after all of the big galaxy changing stuff going on before it, but I thought it was a nice little epilogue that allowed us to see the aftermath of all those big things.
I don't know if they would have needed a full season, but I've always been a bit disappointed Deep Space Nine and Voyager weren't able to do something similar, and give us a deeper look into the aftermath of the Dominion War and Voyager's trip into the Delta Quadrant.

Only two episodes from season 4 would have been pushed into season 5. JMS covers this in the script books. Season 5, how we got it, is pretty much how it would have been anyway.

The first third of season 5 is spinning it's wheels a bit, but the important part of the story, changing the end of the war and temporary alliance into the Interstellar Alliance, is what it's about.

And the last half with the intrigue with the Drahk manipulating the Centauri is some great stuff.

I pretty much entirely agree with Marsden's assessment.

The Drakh stuff should have been given more time, and had they written Crusade's story during season 5 that would have made for a good arc to finish everything off rather then be a separate series which we never saw the ending off or payoff.

    Byron's hair.

No, seriously, Mrs. Silvercrest is much farther along in the series than I am. We have all the seasons and movies but haven't rewatched them in years, and I barely remember Season 5 at all ... but Byron's hair is one of those things you can't unsee.

The Drakh weren't intended to be the major plot line antagonist for Crusade that one might assume from the few episodes we got. By most accounts they were mostly just a catalyst, with the real conflict being with the very same human powers that backed Clark's regime, then slithered back into the shadows once it fell. They're less of an antagonist in and of themselves and more a consequence of a changing galaxy.
Besides, the Centauri Prime flash-forwards in WWE rather dictated how that would largely play out anyway.

As for B5's 5th season: the circumstances behind the first third being a bit of a mess are well documented. The only copy of JMS's creative notes being lost (possibly nicked), a major cast member dropping out, the show being cancelled then picked back up out of the blue *after* the 4th season was truncated to tie up most of the major threads. A little bumpiness while some necessary pieces are positioned is to be expected.
Personally I've never seen what all the fuss was about Byron (or his hair.) It seemed to suit the character, albeit somewhat on the nose with the whole cultish messianic vibe.

1-4 were great, and the tail end of 5.. but Byron's episodes are... agonizing! hard to get though..
Then Crusade was great, but super sad it was cancelled before it even aired.. grrrrr..

But, Right now I wish Jms would do.. Something! A comic, a book series.. Something B5! In the immortal words of Corneal Sanders.. "DO SOMETHING!"

Crusade was released on home video. I have the series on DVD. It is a shame it only got one season.

Perhaps given all of the complications S5 faced, it was a minor miracle it turned out as well as it did?
