That scene had me howling! :guffaw: The sheer, horrific awfulness, in slow motion no less. The Deep can't do anything right; he's like a walking karmic-vortex.

Because that's what the comic it's based on was called.

I decided to hold off on watching more after the first episode until I finished some of the other stuff I was watching, and since I finished The Last Kingdom yesterday, I started working through it.
I watched episode 2, "Cherry" today.
Man, Homelander really is just as much of an ass as I was expecting.
The introduction of our next member of The Boys, Frenchie was pretty good. I actually figured out what he had planned for Translucent pretty quickly once they kept showing the turtle going into it's shell.
I was pretty shocked that Hughie actually killed Translucent, I did not expect him to be able to go through with it.
Some interesting hints at Billy Butcher's backstory in the scene with his ex-partner.
So do we ever get more with Queen Maeve or Black Noir? They haven't really done much with them yet. I'm especially curious to see more of Maeve since I was a big fan of Dominique McElligot in Hell on Wheels.

My main issue with this series is the same I have with the source material. It has these Supers be in a world where there's really no need for them so we can see them be asshats and nothing else. If there really were alien invasions or demon gods or real supervillains running around doing stuff the normal cops and armies couldn't handle and the Supers could, this sort of story wouldn't work.

It also seems to be the term Butcher uses to reference his merry little band of supe defiers

I honestly wondered why they didn't just drown the guy. Take that cage & drop it into a pool or lake or something. Would've been a hell of a lot easier to clean up.

They didn't want to take him outside because then they would be detected by Vought.

I'd have figured out a way to drown him right in that room lol. They managed to build a bomb, & a cage. A water tight crate is not out of the question lol

not that there's anything wrong with blowing him up mind you, beyond being a bit murdery, it's also needlessly messy

That actually becomes a plot point. But even so, this is a world where super humans were suddenly there, and what happens. If a handful of super humans appeared in real life here and now, what would the result be? That is what it's exploring.

Watched episode three, and wow, Homelander really is pretty fucking horrible.
We finally got to see more of Maeve and I'm not really sure what to make of her now. We didn't actually see her do any horrible shit, but she also stood by while Homelander did.
Damn, Pop Claw's landlord's death was nasty.
The introduction of Mother's Milk was pretty good, he definitely seems to be the most normal of The Boys we've met so far, besides Hughie.
I'm very curious to see where they're going to take things with Hughie and Annie.
I liked how all of the excuses they made for Starlight's new, more revealing costume were the same kind of things excuses you hear people, mostly guys, make for the ridiculous costumes in the comics. I loved her telling the little girl not to get her new costume, that was a nice little moment of rebellion.

Or hell just knock him out and shove some virulent poison down his throat. He didn't appear to have any super immunity or healing powers.

The problem in the original comics is they didn't do absolutely anything to deserve the masses' admiration. There are almost no super-villains. They never save anyone. We never see them fight "normal" crime. People read their comics believing that they are same kind of chronicles of their adventures. What the heck???

Yes, but this isn't the original comic, it's the show.

That being said, a big part of the story is that these "heroes" are being marketed. There is a huge billion dollar agency pushing their brand and pushing the U.S. government to contract them. So you are right, they didn't do anything to deserve the masses' admiration, any more than the Kardassians (just to name one example) did.

We do see them doing some real crime fighting in the show.

The point of their adoration is all about them not deserving it, & that the show has a not so thinly veiled commentary on the cult of celebrity being an end unto itself. It's one of the things I liked about it. The whole section where they send Starlight out on a gig with The Deep, & it's all just a show, but it gets marketed pretty massively

The show's recipe comes off as some percentage of cult of celeb commentary, some percentage of absolute power corrupts absolutely, & some percentage of becoming the enemy you seek to destroy

BTW... I'm not wrong about the fact that Butcher did literally blow up an infant, yeah? Just because Homelander pulled Butcher out of that blast, to torment him, doesn't mean he gave a shit about that baby, & probably was happy to see it die with its mother, but the bomb was Butcher's. He's down the rabbit hole of being as horrible as those he seeks to destroy

I haven't made myself clear :) I'm happy that the show addressed one of the major incongruities (in my opinion) of the comics. Yes, the Kardassians are admired, because they are doing, well, the Kardassians. And they aren't lying about it. Instead in the comics you have scenes like this (spoiler I suppose).

So, he's doing a press conference in front of the Capitol, explaining how they are going to fight an alien invasion. But there is no invasion, it's just an excuse because they are going to an annual mega party/orgy instead. And everybody believes them. No newspaper, no tv network, no one is doubting his word. It is simply not credible. Aliens could obliterate the Earth and everyone is ok with it?!?

Someone could argue that it's similar to the various wrestlers' feuds. No one believes that they're true and everyone goes along with the joke. Indeed, it is considered in bad taste to say that it's all fake. The problem is that no one in our world is trying to enlist wrestlers in the military (a central point in both the comics and the tv show).

Saw season one, it was great! I do wonder if Homelander does have some-type of physical weakness, what to prevent him from just taking over the world ?

Perhaps it's better explained in the comics, but why he should bother to do it? it's just a lot of headaches governing the world. He has already everything he wants.

In the comics he's just not too bright enough to think about it (when the comics start), that and he's happy with the life he has.
