In the 80s there was a 13 year old Green Lantern called Arisia.

    https://greenlantern.fandom.com/wiki/Arisia

A sexually forward 13 year old, who kept hitting on (a 30-something) Hal Jordan. She wanted him bad. But since he was a decent person, Hal Jordan said "no thank you" to the thirteen year old again, and again, and again. Hostile work environment. Not long after that in comics time (ten years later by our time) Arisia who was probably 14, got so sad that Hal Jordan still refused to make love to her, that she wished on her magic green lantern ring to be big, you know like Tom Hanks in Big. The ring does it's job, so she is instantly a foot taller, and therefore an adult.

5 minutes after meeting this child who magically now looks like a 23 year old, but is still the same person on the inside, Hal Jordan is kissing her, then they are dating, and then they are living together having full sex, for quite a while.

Geoff Johns, the apologist, invented some nonsense 10 years later (our time) about how Arisia aged slower than a human being, so that she had been an adult the whole time, which is a sad revision on some clumsy storytelling.

How about a Legends type show with a group of heroes but instead of traveling through time, they have adventures across the multiverse? They can be led by Vibe or Gypsy (or both?).

Might be easy on the budget if they visit the Earth 23 STAR Labs or the Earth 49 CatCo. Just use the same sets (if/when they are available) and redress them somewhat.

That's what they did in Crisis on Earth-X, right down to the bizarre situation of having the resistance headquarters be identical to Team Arrow's custom-built bunker, as well as giving the Earth-X villains their own duplicate of the Waverider.

Or they'd do what Sliders did and have the same hotel in every universe so they could use it as a standing set. (12 Monkeys on Syfy did pretty much the same thing -- the time travelers had a hotel suite permanently reserved so they could stay there in any past year they visited.)

That's due to those behind the film not knowing a single thing about what makes the Hal Jordan Green Lantern or his world tick. It was a lowballed, substance-free film--as wrong as one could get with the subject matter. That is why I am glad WB is moving toward a GL movie that its safe to say will not take any cues from the 2011 film.

Yes, it makes one wonder why he was cast at all. There's no part of Reynolds that would make anyone say, "I can see him as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern".

The best of any earth based period was the aforementioned O'Neil/Adams period, which ran from 1970-72, but some of the plots were logically tied to GL's duty/relationship/contrasts with the Guardians. Even in those landmark stories, the off-world scj-fi framework was not abandoned or far away. Anything else are honestly not worth mentioning, as the Silver and Bonze Age stories where he happened to be on earth were unremarkable. Outside of his own title, he was best used in the Justice League of America comic, which was almost as fantastic in nature as a GL comic.

If anyone (not meaning you) needs to try to alter the essence of GL just to be a part of the Arrowverse, then its a disservice to the potential to the character.

What you're describing is not the essence of the character. It's just the version you prefer. Just as Batman can be everyone from Adam West to the stocky guy in Frank Miller's comics, we're talking a concept that's been done in all sorts of ways over the years. Purity tests are not applicable.

Incorrect. GL was not the old Captain Action doll from the 60s, where he can take on any face of various personalities. He was established with a distinct personality and world far apart from the other DC heroes. That is his essence, not some watered down idea of a space cop serving an alien organization somehow working earth-bound cases like something seen on any of the 50,000 TV law enforcement procedural drama.

But again, if GL will be served as he should be (taking full advantage of all his reality), it will happen on the big screen.

I'd love a Cruz & Baz GL show.

As for "can't be done on TV"... lots of things couldn't be done on TV, until someone did it. :p

Surely the popularity of Rocket Raccoon would translate into a (Green Lanterns) Ch'p or B'dg series?

But can they find a squirrel that can act as well as that rabbit does?

Yup. Like I said, the Arrowverse has pulled off a bunch of things we wouldn't have thought possible on TV. And their FX team has gained a great deal of experience by this point, plus the technology keeps improving. Who knows what they could do in a year or two?

So many of the FX work is still dodgy and nowhere near the level a GL production would demand.

As I've said, the comics themselves were initially mostly Earthbound way and have since then had long stretches where they returned to that format. It's legit. That you don't care for it doesn't change that.

I'm looking through the early GL issues on DC Universe. There's a good mix of Earth and off-Earth stories, though I think it's weighted slight toward the off Earth stuff (Four issues are spent on Qward). A lot of the early issues contain two separate stories. Usually one on Earth battling super-villians and one in space.

One thing that would help budget-wise is to remove the rather silly idea that Green Lanterns can fly through space under their own power (where's their air supply in that skintight force field?) and change it for TV so that they use spaceships. That way you could have GL's ship as a standing set and have it travel from planet to planet the way the Waverider travels from era to era (or, y'know, like the Enterprise). The ship could also house a cast of supporting characters who'd be GL's assistants -- and since this is the Arrowverse, one or two of them would probably graduate to being Green Lanterns themselves in later seasons.

The “silly idea” is one of the foundational characteristics of Green Lanterns as well as one of its most appealing aspects.

There's no reason that a GL series for TV has to cut out anything whatsoever in terms of the things that people think "make" the character.

I've always assumed the ring can create the atmosphere needed by the user and propel them at FTL speed, create warps and whatever else is needed to get from point A to B. GL regularly created "spacecraft" with atmosphere for his JLA buddies.

The point is, in a TV show, there are many advantages to using a spaceship instead. Conceptually, it's easier for a general audience to swallow. Pragmatically, it's less costly to shoot actors on a standing spaceship set than to animate their CGI doubles flying through space, and having standing ship sets lets you economize more because you can do bottle shows and the like. Creatively, you have more flexibility in writing and staging with actors on a set than with GLs flying through space in force-field bubbles, and the actors can give better performances if they're not dangling on wires before a greenscreen. What works on the comics page and what works in a TV series are not always the same thing.

As I mentioned before, Green Lantern: The Animated Series contrived an excuse for the GLs to use a spaceship despite being able to fly through space without one (because they were sent to a particularly remote sector), because of the advantages of such a permanent setting. It was a 3D-animated show and thus had the same kind of budget restrictions as a live-action show, in that every new setting had to be "built" in the computer, so they needed standing digital sets that they could use on a regular basis to save time and money. It also had the other advantages of storytelling and staging.
