Trek writers original works

The late Mack Reynolds, the author of the first Star Trek novel, Mission to Horatius, had had his public domain short fiction collected by Standard Ebooks, and it's a free download. (Link here.) The volunteers who work on Standard Ebooks do a really good job; I've paid for ebooks that aren't half as professionally done as their free ebooks.

I've never read anything by Reynolds other than Mission to Horatius, so I'll give this collection (a quarter of a million words!) a look. Thought others might be interested, too. :)

I'm new here so I don't know if this has been brought up in this thread before. I would love to see Trek authors collaborate on their own shared universe, be it science fiction or fantasy. I love science fiction and have read many of the old classic(Herbert, Asimov, Foster) and the new classic( Reynolds, Hamilton, Simmons) but the most enjoyment I get is from reading Trek and some Star Wars novels. My favorite authors all write Star Trek and I can only imagine what would happen if they created their own shared universe.

I can't remember the name of it, but I think I do remember there being an original shared universe that several Trek writers contributed to a few years back.

That might have been Tales of the Scattered Earth. I know KRAD and David Niall Wilson and Aaron Rosenberg contributed a few novels to support it. It had an interesting premise combining science fiction and steampunkish fantasy, where each separate series of stories would someday converge. Oh, yeah, a multiverse, too! I remember reading that several novels were planned but I only saw a few. I liked what I read( especially KRAD 's) and would have liked to see where it would have gone.

Hey, folks. A favor to ask, from those of you who might be willing to help...

My second Dark Arts novel, THE IRON CODEX, has been nominated for a 2019 DRAGON AWARD, in the category of Best Alternate History Novel.

Voting in the Dragon Awards is FREE and easy. All one needs to do is register (if you're already signed up to vote, you should be receiving a ballot soon) with a valid email. Takes a few minutes.

When you receive your voting link via email (it might take a few days to arrive after you register), please consider voting for The Iron Codex in the Best Alternate History Novel category.

Also up for a Dragon Award this year, in the Best Media Tie-in Novel category, is Star Trek: Discovery – The Way to the Stars, by Una McCormack. Please throw some love her way, as well, if you're so inclined.

That's my plea for your support. Here's hoping you fine folks will help spread the word, and give us your votes.

Peace out, friends.

You and Una have got my vote

Random question. Does anyone happen to have a list of the novels, novellas, short stories, etc. that Marco Palmieri edited for Tor? I've been meaning to branch out in my genre reading beyond Star Trek, Doctor Who, X-Men & Jenette Kahn/Karen Berger/Paul Levitz era DC & Vertigo and figured that would be a good place to start. Dude's fucking phenomenal at finding and cultivating talent.

I think this covers the short fiction - https://www.tor.com/members/marcopalmieri/edited/

For novels, I tried to make a list at some point and it wasn't easy to do so. After looking on a bunch of different websites / social media posts I think I have them all?

The Eschaton Sequence - John C. Wright
The Craft Sequence - Max Gladstone (and I think he worked on Empress of Forever also?)
Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne - Brian Staveley
The World of the End - Ofir Touche Gafla
Sea Change - S.M. Wheeler
Unbreakable & Indomitable - W.C. Bauers
A Darkling Sea - James L. Cambias
The Chronicles of the Exile - Marc Turner
Baru Cormorant books - Seth Dickinson
Last Song Before Night / Fire Dance - Ilana C. Myer
Time Salvager / Time Siege - Wesley Chu
The Geek Feminist Revolution - Kameron Hurley
False Hearts - Laura Lam
Barsk series - Lawrence M. Schoen
The Only Harmless Great Thing - Brooke Bolander
Dark Arts trilogy - David Mack
Slaves of the Switchboard of Doom - Bradley W. Schenck
Steal the Stars (originally a podcast audio drama, also novelized)

If anyone knows any that I'm missing I'd love to add them to the list!

I was working on my own list when the BBS told me there was another post. Curse you!
You missed The Undefeated by Una McCormack, but that's all I know of.

Oh, thanks for the addition! (I even have that on my wish list, but didn't make the connection. I just see "Una McCormack" and it becomes an easy choice...)

I believe that's just the stuff that's appeared on Tor.com, so there's probably other stuff that's only been in books that's not included.

Are you aware of anything to which that description would apply? I’d love to add to my list.

I'm not aware of anything for sure, no.
One possibility you didn't have on you list that I know of is "Hell Rode With Her", a short story from David Mack's Dark Arts series. I'm assuming since the novels were edited by Marco that probably was too.

Oh yeah good point!

I guess since that was listed under "Excerpts", for some reason, it didn't get tagged onto Marco's list.

In addition to Tales of the Scattered Earth, several Trek novelists have contributed to a couple of shared-world anthology series published by Crazy 8 Press: ReDeus and Pangaea.
