The Last Jedi - Actually Widely Hated?

Why? Why is it uninteresting or inconsistent or wasting the character to allow him to end up with a happy ending?

I think Solo was a character who would have to change in order to have a happy ending. And, we love him as the selfish rogue. Once he discovers something bigger than himself, I think it would’ve been compelling to see him sacrifice himself.

Which him grow old telling stories of the past as he barbecues sounds terrible to me.

As far as pop culture entertainment, as far as far as changing how people could see movies, and the technology (especially the diversity of technology) other films made huge advancements .. but Star Wars awas a perfect storm back in 1977 and that is what I was getting at.. in term s of popular culture our country literally changed over night when SW came out. Again watch Empire of Dreams that was the point they were making

"I can't get past this line. This is utter nonsense. Star wars has been divisive since ESB. The prequels did so much damage in terms of negativity in the fandom, bitterness and cynicism. " You should watch Empire of Dreams.. the line about STar Wars .. i just quoted Cronkite himself and he was right.
I have. I've been in Star wars fandom since 89. I've seen the good and the bad. It's not new.

I disagree, with the exception that ROTS is indeed not for kids. I think the death of the younglings in particular was gratuitous from that perspective. Until then...well...even now George says it’s for the kids who are coming of age.
For me, Sith is where he started listening to the extant older fan base a little too much, and the shift to Vader as some kind of antihero begins..it’s also where he becomes more than ever the face of the franchise.
Overall, I am not sure this is a good thing.
I'm not sure it's a good thing either. I think ROTS was a huge step in the wrong direction. I think Clone Wars almost stopped it back, but then delved right in to mature themes again and again.

The OT is always there though. So, I don't mind the franchise growing beyond me.

there is plenty wrong with her decision-making. She obviously doesn't see eye to eye with a few of her directors. Episode 9 was delayed a LOT thanks to creative problems and the firing of the director.. she has mismanaged the franchise that even shills like Campea advocated her being removed

You could say Last Jedi changed the world too, although not for the better. Ghostbusters 2016 was the warning shot but TLJ was the pearl-harbor of dumspter-fires.

Blue/green milk was the wrong choice.

I don't have to. I was there, I saw it all happen. I know exactly what happened when it opened, how audiences responded to it that summer, the merchandising bonanza, watched the movie industry change within a few years - not entirely for the better - was somewhat involved with the trade press during the run-up to the second movie, etc. and so forth.

Oh, and a lot of fans were pissed off by ROTJ.

I mean, it's nice that CBS got Cronkite to narrate something to explain the whole thing to people later, but...nothing that you've said so far is at all persuasive of anything other than your preferences.

I watched it live...three p/four year old, loved Rebels..annuals, toys, the lot. By season 2 he had gone off it, it got worse as it went on...and unsurprisingly they didn’t bother publishing the annuals anymore.
Kids get the Lego versions and that’s it.
I don’t know how the toys are doing anymore, but they probably aren’t selling to kids so much.

Rebels is like a scale model of the franchise overall, even if I may have found bits kind of cool, it grew way too fast for its audience.
Sort of like a kid big enough for Philosophers stone doing the whole set in a week.
When it first happened (Harry Potter, Though it’s eseentially the same with Star Wars) there was a natural gap between instalments that the audience grew a little with. It’s necessary. It leapt.

yeah .. characters.. even simple ones, even ones that are archetypes, can develope.. but you pepper that development, you don't give it large spoonfuls at a time, especially off screen.

I've been a fan of this franchise my whole life, it might be the first thing I remember.. not just movie, but one of my first experiences.. idk.. and yet I'm looking forward more to what Seth will do on Orville than Episode 9 or even the Mandalorian.

Dumpster fire my ass.

Do you understand that the majority of people in the world find Star Wars merely as entertainment? An escape? Do you understand that movies rarely have that kind of power? The 1977 Star Wars did, sure. It was a cultural event. The sequels, even the beloved and overrated (yeah, I said it) ESB and Rogue One are simply further entries in the saga to most.

People grow and change. So do tastes. Enjoy what you enjoy and let others do the same. Having different tastes is what makes us unique.

I just remembered there was a "reply button LOL.. I never said you couldn't like the movie. Hey I am just stating what I think.

You don’t like the movies as they stand now. You’re suggesting you won’t continue to watch. That’s cool by me. It is, after all, JUST a movie. But I guess my perspective is: if you’re done, and you’ve said your piece, why continue to talk about it?

And that's totally cool. People's tastes, hobbies and entertainment interests change.

My kids like em:shrug:

That's a star wars staple.
