I could see Georgiou wanting to be captain, but Burnham and Saru being against it.

Not just Burnham and Saru, but the entire crew. There'd be a mutiny by the end of alpha shift.

**Shit. Symbolism. Forget I said anything.

Most of the crew doesn’t know who she actually is, IIRC.

I'm going to go with Saru. It's still a Starfleet ship and I have hard time seeing them integrate with the V'Draysh (who I think will be an enemy if they're encountered), so it won't be anyone they put in command. And I don't think the crew would be able to get behind an Outsider.

Georgiou would want to take over but no one would follow her unless their backs are against the wall and something happened to Saru. That could happen but I don't see it. Saru would take command back as soon as he was able to. Burnham would be First Officer.

I could be totally wrong, but this is how I see it.

Definitely Georgiou. In the eyes of practically the entire crew, she basically deserves it and is by far the most qualified person for it (based on the record of Prime Georgiou).

I want Saru. But I expect it to be someone else to be named later.

I think most people on the ship think she's the Prime Georgiou. Where she's really from was classified. But, at this point, Burnham and Saru might decide there's no point in keeping up the charade any longer. Who knows? That might be something they'll have to talk about.

If there's any meritocracy left in the 4th millennium, it'll be Saru.

Maybe they won't have a captain and function as a vote-based collective. Every important decision is decided with an origami fortuneteller.

I don't really understand how this is a question.

Georgiou can't be the captain, because I'm sure neither Saru nor Burnham would stand for it, and I think they'd rather tell the crew about her true identity if she tries to pull rank then just hand over the fate of the crew to her.

Burnham is the science officer, Saru is the first officer. So in a situation in which the captain isn't on board, incapacitated, or killed the first officer is the one in charge by default until there is a replacement sent or they are permanently promoted to the position. So unless the Discovery meets up with a Federation that is intact and integrates the crew into its fleet and gives them a new Captain, Saru is it. Burnham might have the same rank, but in the ship's hierarchy she is positioned under Saru.

Imagine all those TOS episodes where Kirk is captured. Now imagine he can shoot darts from his head.

None of that matters in the absence of the federation and starfleet which is a possibility and even if a version of starfleet is still around after 1000 years it would have changed so much that you couldn't just integrate Discovery and it's crew.

The crew doesn't have to follow starfleet rules and regulations anymore if they don't want to, should they collectively decide they don't want Saru as their captain what is he supposed to do? They won't do that because they like and trust him but they could.

I think Saru, Burnham and Georgiou will effectively make decisions by committee, Discovery is on its own in a completely unknown environment that none of them knows, there's not an obvious choice for who's best to lead, as a triumvirate they could be more effective than a single person deciding for everyone.
