Sigh. I had so many of the FASA Star Trek role playing game books. Not a great system, but, I loved the work and imagination that went into the whole thing.
If I remember a podcast right, AP's explanation for using the Kelvin timeline ships was that he believed they would've existed before the timeline had been altered when Nero came back or something like that. I've always felt that those ships didn't tie into TOS enough. The Ares should've had a TOS style deflector, but AP got talked out of hat by Tobias for lighting reasons on the model. There is a line in Prelude where AP refers to the Xenophon, an old Marlin-class destroyer, and I do believe that comes from FASA.

The Season 1 DSC writers (and cast) kept saying they looked at 'The Final Reflection' for inspiration with the Klingons as well, but I've never read the book so I don't know how much that actually made it into the show, other than referencing 'The Black Fleet' in dialogue.particularly with John M. Ford's contributions for the Klingons taken from his books "The Final Reflection" and "How Much for Just The Planet?".

Same. I could read it all day long (and still occasional dip in) but could not put a game together.FASA built up a rich and detailed Star Trek backstory which I loved exploring even though I never had interest in the game itself.
Their Klingon "one wing" is the Klingon version of the Reliant RobinTheir Klingon designs were just lovely.
L-24 is futuristic enough to appear in PICARD
A sad day for gaming - remember it well. I've played all the Trek systems as well as SFB (not including Modiphius' latest incarnation) and FASA, by far, was my favorite - particularly with John M. Ford's contributions for the Klingons taken from his books "The Final Reflection" and "How Much for Just The Planet?". He presented a far more richly thought-out culture for them than the herds of Samurai-Viking Hair Band rockers constantly bellowing about HONOOORRRR!!!! that we got in TNG+ (IMO, of course). When I got deep into White Wolf games, I retrofitted their character sheets to Trek because I really didn't like what was done by Last Unicorn (1998-2000) and Decipher (2001-2003). Also did versions for Battlestar Galactica and Immortals (based on Highlander lore) in the absence of anything official from those genres. Worked pretty well. Haven't tried the newest Modiphius version (2016-present), but I'm not really into it anymore these days, sadly.
