Robert Picardo to return for Picard

This is full four quadrant insanity:
There are people that like DIS and look forward to PIC (obviously), people that don't like DIS and don't look forward to DIS (understandable), people that don't like DIS but looking forward to PIC (hoping for the best), and people that like DIS that don't look forward to PIC (IMO a bit weird).

I've seen all four kind around here. And all for are completely valid opinions. And yet personally, I find some more understandable than others.

Well I saw someone say that they were worried because they loved discovery and didn't want Picard to happen because they didn't want the message of star trek to be that white men are important.

I mean I get that because of pike in disco but picard is a classic character so can't we make an exception for him.

So no you don't have real examples? You just saw something somewhere? OK.

I'm not going to trawl the board for quotes there's plenty around if you have two eyes (or even one or dictation software), and I am very busy writing a thesis on women's portrayal in commercials and why it needs to change.

People are angry and upset that a white man who isn't the villain in this series is in it.

Many of my friends are activists and all we want is everyone to be treated equally and that means no more white men on TV thankyou.

You're shooting yourself in the foot by doubling down. In a thesis, you have to list sources. This is no different. If you have time to take away from writing your thesis by posting here, then you have time to find a thread and cut-and-paste one quote that you can link to. Even one. You wouldn't have to dig very far if there actually is plenty around. It wouldn't take any time at all.

I'm not doing a thesis on this post. It takes me 30 seconds to write a reply, trawling the boards would take multiple minutes

Never reveal that much about yourself on the internet. People around here are entirely unfazed by sources, but they will jump at every opportunity to make it personal (within the boards rules)

Where I can back @Infern0 up is that I have seen the complain "the show looks awfully white" around here. Multiple times. Though nothing that sounded really "angry" or "upset". But then, I'm really only reading targeted few threads here.

And no, I'm not going to crawl back and search for sources. This is not a thesis. In a thesis the reading audience cares about the sources. Here it's obviously used to dismiss Infern0s opinion (which I don't agree with either, btw) by holding her post to unfair standards.

Yes no time to spare at all.........ok.

Yes, that looks perfectly like a person sitting from very early in the morning to very late at night in front of a computer at home, and tabbing every two hours between breaks on the internet...

There's a difference between doing a fun thing (reading up on a hobby between breaks) and a stupid thing (wasting time to please two grumpy strangers in the internet by doing research that will get dismissed anyway). Unless I get payed for it, I wouldn't do the second thing either.

Also, I really doubt that part, and that doesn't sound like a good-faith argument either...

Tiny nitpick - Cabrera was born in Venezuela but his nationality is Chilean - his father was a diplomat so they moved around a lot (hence the mostly English accent).

But yeah, out of seven regulars, only three are white, despite complaints to the contrary. Heh, and only one is actually American, in this most American of shows!

I recall there was. Until Tilly anyway. Once Trek went profanity, no point to stop them on the forums.
There was never a policy against profanity. I know, I've been using profanity on this forum long before Tilly made it cool, and have never been penalized for it. Besides, if Trek BBS had a problem with profanity, the forum software likely includes a profanity filter option (most forum softwares do) which instantly renders a swear word into a series of asterisks. So if there were a problem with profanity, they could just turn the profanity filter on and prevent us from swearing.

Bottom line, there's no fucking reason to get after other posters for using fucking profanity. We can post that shit all the fuck we want.
