Robert Picardo to return for Picard

A bunch of random thoughts on this:

It's great Picard(o) is coming back! It makes sense that holograms would still be in use in some way.

There's nothing wrong with callbacks/fanservice in a postscript/sequel show about an iconic character. It doesn't seem like they'll be driving the plot and it's a good way to reward fans for decades of investment in the franchise. Some of the what fanbase considers the best episodes and movies (TWOK, BOBW, FC are just some examples) are callbacks to previous events and characters in the franchise.

Finally, it would be good if we stopped treating Trek fandom as a zero-sum game. Being a fan of or liking one show does not reduce fandom availability for another show. I like DSC. I am excited for PIC! Just like I like TOS, TNG, and DS9. Some more than others at various times, but when I like TNG more that doesn't decrease my love for TOS or DS9 by a corresponding amount. CBS wants a lot of varied Trek shows to be on their service year round and that is a good thing, not a bad thing.

Should be stickied.

Not sure what the fuck you're talking about here, but as a 'disco die-hard' I am VERY excited for Picard.
This - Dico Fans Hating on Picard - line of discussion very much sounds like typical Yt garbage to me.
I'm not seeing it anywhere around here and I practically live here most days.
I'm thinking that perhaps it's just another way for the folks who spout this nonsense to get their digs in on DISCOVERY as a whole.
And saying that one has seen "sly digs" instead of outright examples, sounds more like one is trying to stir up trouble where there is none to be had.

So far, the "DIS-fans hating on PIC" I have seen was mostly people-trying-to-be-contrarian stuff. Like, people distancing themselves from what the "brainless masses" want, and be in their own edgy corner away from mainstream. Nothing of malevolence though! Just plain, old schoolyard grouping behaviour.

I'm getting a kick out of the imaginary war between DSC and PIC, too. As a DSC fan, I've also been as excited as anyone for PIC. Among any of the fans for any Trek series, some will have positive feelings about it, some will have negative. But it's rich that the most "sly digs" are coming against DSC from the people who are most vocally complaining about DSC fans, and in forum threads that have nothing to do with DSC. So it's needless pot-stirring.

Seriously I think between here and Facebook/Twitter I've seen 96% positive response to Picard........VLOGGERS are the only place I have seen negative stuff and a random post here and there. ME/DC/RMB/Mecha are as constant as the Northern Star with their hate though..........

Really? I've seen many a post claiming Disco was made for the "brainless masses".

At this point, I pretty much ignore any post that describes the general public as "the masses."

To paraphrase Gary Seven, I have little patience with fannish snobbery.

I always pay close attention to negative Nellies, so I can ignore their posts. And the impression that I have is that those who are bashing Picard are not the Discovery fans, but the anti-Kurtzman crowd who actually dislike Discovery even more than Picard.

This is full four quadrant insanity:
There are people that like DIS and look forward to PIC (obviously), people that don't like DIS and don't look forward to DIS (understandable), people that don't like DIS but looking forward to PIC (hoping for the best), and people that like DIS that don't look forward to PIC (IMO a bit weird).

I've seen all four kind around here. And all for are completely valid opinions. And yet personally, I find some more understandable than others.

Well, Picard already kind of looked like CBS was doing a Canon version of this:

I guess if the manage to wrangle Tim Russ, Walter Koenig and/or a busty Andorian as well, then I'll know for sure what this is.
I'm not seeing any comparison from what information we have.

I have other crap going on in my life that I'm not talking about. I told a few people here, but no else needs to know. Bottom line: I don't have time for and am not interested in a stupid DSC vs. PIC rivalry. I don't want it at all.

I already don't like the Disco vs. Orville nonsense, but it's too late to do anything about it. It's not the show, it's the attitude of those fans that did it in for me.

I'm not getting that sense here with Picard. I think we all know that all the Trek being made by CBS All Access is, at the end of the day, made under the same umbrella. And that's the way I view it. We're all on the same side and we're all in this together.

But hang on. Didn't he say he's in talks with CBS about doing something 'next season.' Couldn't he have been talking about Lower Decks? The quotes I've seen don't specifically say it was PIC they were talking to his agent about, and LOD is a much more natural vehicle for revisiting - if they want - every 24th century character.

Tune in next week for Johnny Picard's Down Home Country Space Reunion
With a bunch of folks from 20 years ago to remind you what it was like in the good ole days.

Remember when they said Picard wouldn't a reunion show?

They're probably scrambling like crazy, trying to buy up every prop ever sold on It's a Wrap and finding roles for Siritis that involve drinking so they don't have to loose a day's filming. This show was written when Benny was on some experimental therapy, I just know it. There, they can put Benny in it, too. It's his damned universe, anyway.
