New Picard SDCC Trailer

Given how badly Nemesis was received, both at the box office, and by the fanbase, I seriously doubt they'll dredge up the B4 stuff in any meaningful way. It's either going to be a few lines of dialogue explaining how Data has been reincarnated in some other android body (Lore's, B4's or a brand new one either found or built), or Data is part of a holodeck program, either one personal to Picard or perhaps part of the same museum exhibit as the Captain Picard Day banner.

I'm actually beginning to settle on this as more likely than him still being alive.

It was confirmed that B4 is the disassembled body in the drawer seen in the trailer.

Well, Spiner has already confirmed that the android body in the drawer is B4, but that he is playing Data.

Yeah, I saw that. Still think my theory is likely though. Bet the drawer sequence is no more than 5 minutes of backstory from the first episode in which Data appears, explaining how Data either continues (or doesn't continue...) to be.

Am I the only one that thinks that the banner is nothing more than a holodeck projection? And that this is the same scene where Picard meets Data (another hologram) for a game of poker? I mean, that does seem like the most logical conclusion based on the evidence we have so far... right?

The tea cup in that scene is the same as the Enterprise-D replicator tea cup as well. I'd assume the cup would get a redesign after so many years, you never know - JLP orders it so often he probably accidentally brought a few home from work by accident over the years.

Sorry if it was said before, but some people complained about "Data"'s lenses in the trailer. They are actually the same as B4's.

Maybe they never got B-4 to fully work due to the shortcomings of his positronic brain. He "became" Data, but he couldn't survive longterm. So they keep him in a drawer and Jean-Luc pulls him out once in a blue moon for a game of cards and to ask his advice when necessary.

The 'Data' Picard is interacting with is probably a Hologram using whatever 'personality/memories' of Data that were available.

Just watched it. Man...that question (which was about Discovery and not even Picard) was AWFUL. I feel for the people on the show who have to go "um, yeah, great question" to stupid, off topic queries.

Anyway, I don't recall them getting into Spiner's role, or really anything at all in regards to him. Do you have a time stamp?

I don't think the film's reception critically or from the fans really matters on whether the events of it should be referenced. Like it or not, Nemesis is canon and the series is free to use it as a way to set it up. And besides, let's be honest, despite the fact that Nemesis was intent on being the last film, it ended fairly open-ended and I think we are at least owed some kind of explanation as to what happened after that; however minor it might be.

the lack of acknowledgement of Sybok Discovery was actually a huge disappointment for me. However, I can't think of a place in story where it would have made sense to bring him up.

The bigger point is that there are things which are canon which have not and will never be acknowledged on screen again. STP (PIC?) isn't going to draw more attention to that turd of a movie than is required.

Hobus grossly outweighs Nero's massacre of the Romulan government, Data will be back (in what capacity we don't know), and Riker & Troi being married wouldn't surprise anyone even if Nemesis were never made.

So, yeah. Unless we see Remans, Nemesis will no longer have any relevance.

Popular episodes and movies are vastly more likely to be referenced than unpopular ones. There are in the entries in the canon which are problematic and unpopular and as such most people would be fine with pretending they never happened. I'm thinking specifically of the likes of VOY:Threshold or TNG:Lonely Among Us, but I have little doubt there are entire threads around here about episodes worthy of decanonization.

I like ST5, but admit it's been utterly ignored. They've gone back to the center of the galaxy. They've gone back to Spock's family. Not a trace of the final frontier to be had.
