Baja?! I haven't got anything in Baja!
It was already getting difficult to hide Spiner’s aging when he was in his 50s by NEMESIS (the first time I really noticed he no longer looked like his series self). So now trying to pull that off in his 70s was always going to be tricky.

I assume his part will be a very minimal.

Lets hope the writers aren't, and are brave enough to tell him he has a bad idea when they see one. Or this could turn into Insurrection all over again.

Did anyone notice that one of the Vulcans (or Romulans) in the trailer is Suzie Plakson who played Dr Selar, K'Ehleyr and the Female Q in Voyager?

Is she reprising her role as Dr Selar?

Never mind I think I was wrong.

I'm grasping to collect my words a lot lately. Tired? Overworked? Tumor that's pushing up against the language center of my brain causing me to have occasional bouts of nominal aphasia? Probably all of it.

I get that the show can't look like '90s Trek and that some aesthetics and looks of it are going to change, but it seems to have gone too far in that direction and much of what I saw just looks like stuff from Discovery and Abrams Trek/Kelvin Universe that I just didn't care for.

And I mean, for everything we love about Trek and seeing they "mission" they're going on apparently is going to be using a ship that's some kind of cargo vessel? A Borg cube? I dunno. It just doesn't look like something that I'd expect to see or the visuals I'd want in Trek. Trek has lost a lot of it's optimism and just this bright, comfortable, and appealing future. Going for, as I've said, just generic modern-sci-fi grittiness.

I'd also lay down money that Picard goes to Starfleet/The Federation for help on this mission which has important, big, humanitarian angles to it and they're going to turn him down. Because the Federation is no longer this futuristic, utopian, government that wants the best for all sentient life. But is going to just be Generic Bureaucratic Government that care about it's bottom line more than it does the right thing. It's going to be like every other government, ever.

I could be wrong. As more is seen, shown I could get turned to it. But having recently watched through all of TNG on BD and loved pretty much every moment of it (I did skip the episodes that I don't much care for) I watch this and I just feel... "That isn't the kind of Trek I love and want to see." Such a thing hasn't existed for decades.

(Sort of a little gripe, I kind of wish the Combadge picard reveals in the little case had the oval backing to it like in the show instead of angular one from the movies/late DS9/Voyager.)

I'm awaiting a Red Letter Media response to it. I have a feeling Mike and Rich Evans are going to express similar thoughts and feelings I have on it.

    Possible Voyager connection:

In Timeless, Kim said he obtained the Borg temporal transceiver from the wreckage of a Borg Cube in the Beta Quadrant. While that timeline was erased, the Borg Cube in question could well have still been out there waiting to be stumbled upon. The Romulan Empire is primarily in Beta Quadrant.

Could well be the same cube that contributed to the Narada's upgrade, and we see in this trailer, and was the cube that Harry got his transceiver from in that unrealised future.

    Another idea:

Could the prisoners we see be carriers of the Borg nanoprobe virus that the Queen tried to force Seven to work on in Dark Frontier?

Seems unlikely, I don’t think Suzie Plakson has done much acting in the past 10 years, and nothing in the past 5 according to IMDB...

The idealistic 'mission statement' Federation has rarely been shown in practice. This is the same Federation that gave the go ahead to Sisko to manipulate The Romulans into the Dominion War, developed phased cloaking technology in violation of their treaty with the Romulans, collaborated with the Sona to kick the Baku off of their planet ... and turned a blind eye to Section 31's genocidal activities.

The Federation has always been a bit hypocritical.

Watch the Comic Con interview. They name check the cameos in the first season and basically say they'd like to see more, but that Stewart was very insistent the show not feature a full crew reunion or just be TNG 2.0

It was always that way even back in TOS. There was always the generic Starfleet Admiral who served as the bureaucratic foil for our heroes. The idealism and humanitarian angle came from our heroes like Kirk, Picard or Janeway, not from Starfleet or the Federation Council. Kirk would give a speech about the futility of war, Picard could give a speech about tolerance, etc...

From the interviews and press, it sounds like Hugh's role will be more substantial than Seven's at least. Riker and Troi are likely to be one off guest stars. Data, by Spiner's own words, is in several episodes, but not every one.

The phasers being used by the police type people in that scene sounded weird. Like Dominion phasers or some shit? Not Federation. I've heard those phasers before, but I think they were a different type or something?

That's it! I was wondering what seemed off with it. It also makes his mouth look smaller. He kinda looks like he is Data with the "Woll Smoth" meme applied.

I hope they're going to do more CGI work on that fight scene on the roof of Starfleet Headquarters, because (a) it looks like 21st century Anaheim, and (b) it certainly doesn't look like San Francisco!

Can't discern too much from the trailer but honestly a lot of red flags. This just looks frankly like more Kurtzman/bad robot crap, dark tone and cinematography, mystery boxes, S31, heavy "tomb raiding" nostalgia, action, action, action, "the fate of the entire galaxy, she's the destroyer!!!" Over the top stakes. This looks like more Discovery honestly than anything to do with TNG.

I wish I was exciterd, but it's everything I would expect from Kurtzman. The fact I watch this trailer and think "meh looks kinda bad" is not a good sign, I LOVE the TNG crew and Picard is a real role model for me and this is doing nothing.

    1. It’s a trailer. They tend to focus on the actiony bits to get people excited.

    2. Michael Chabon is not Kurtzman. If you’re not familiar with his work, spend a few seconds googling. He’s an award-winning novelist, not some hack nobody.
