New Picard SDCC Trailer

Not long enough, in my opinion, to shove in TNG crew members, Seven of Nine, Hugh and the Borg AND whatever the actual story is supposed to be about.
But that is probably what the story is about! For example this first season seems to deal with the liberated Borg, thus it makes perfect sense to feature the three former Borg characters (Picard, Seven, Hugh) that we already have.
Sorry, perhaps the DSC forum has jaded me, but I am highly skeptical at the ability of the writers to juggle so many elements. And I am shocked, shocked, by the level of confidence in this team to pull in so many story elements and nostalgia pieces. Forgive me, but where is this confidence for DSC?
Confidence in Disco vanished after it turned out that the writing on the first season was utterly terrible and only got worse after the season progressed. Season two was better but still unravewelled midway. With Disco they don't seem to have plan or a coherent creative vision. With Picard it seems that they have actually a concept they believe in, and probably at least an outline for the three seasons. Sure, they can still fuck it up, but it seems they have a solid starting point.
It's fatiguing to be inundated with these elements of nostalgia.
Continuing the stories of existing characters is not nostalgia.

There's a limit on how far artistic reinterpretation & suspension of disbelief can & should take you

They did a decent job of reinterpreting the Enterprise bridge in Discovery to the point whete you can almost believe that the original could have looked like that - but what break it is those extra half stations

Uhura didn't have a 2nd chair next to her, never a secondary com officer operating part of the panel

The ship is too big no matter how well they tried to paper over the cracks

Overlarge ships are a characteristic we've seen in everything since ST:2009

If it's the same continuity the basics shpuld be the same - the ships shpuld be the same size - there is no good reason for making them bigger in universe other than this purported conspiracy that things have to be 15%-26% different (depending who you believe on that figure).
947 x 1.25 = 1183.75 feet

Yes, yes it is. Picard is nostalgic, Pike is nostalgic, Spock is nostalgic.

Time will tell if it turns in to good stories.

Enjoy, then.

I've had my fill of Borg.

Disagree.

They don't need to, they're already in the same continuity.

Though if the merger does happen, and happens quick enough, it’s the perfect excuse needed by the conspiracy theorists to say “ah that’s why everything still looks the same in PIC” and then nobody ever needs to admit that they were completely wrong.

Since we know there is this Borg cube that the Romulans are using to experiment on humans with Borg tech, I wonder if some of the Borgified humans will go rogue and form a new Borg Collective and start assimilating. It would be an interesting way to do the Borg instead of having some vanilla Borg cube from the DQ with a Queen.

This trailer is just amazing. I can't believe we're about to be getting more JLP. And Data! Seven! Riker and Troi!

I almost can't believe it. We're finally moving forward in the timeline -- a true sequel to the TNG/DS9/VOY era. It's what I've wanted for almost 20 years. Finally!!

I'm more excited about this show now than anything else being created in the entire genre, in Trek or Star Wars or anything else.

I am surprised how a lot of people react to Hugh, Data, Troi, Riker and 7o9 like they will be series regulars. They won't - they probably only have a one-scene cameo for a dialogue with Picard in the pilot.

They seem to be going back to TOS Style Romulans, though some of the ones in the trailer seemed to have pronounced brows like in ST09.
I think we could have crested romulans and others that look more vulcans like elnor

I kind of wish Seven had been given more to do in the trailer since her lines (to me at least) felt a bit out of character without having the full scene context to go with them.

In her case it makes sense, since she has a 20 year character development after her, so now she probably is more Annika Hansen than 7o9.

That's what the trailer showed. Of course people will react to it.

My bet with Picard is that they'll skirt that line as tightly as they can. If Data appears in flashback with Nemesis style uniforms it won't be an exact copy of that uniform it'll again be subtly different. I might be wrong - we'll see, but I bet I'm not

I note the Generations-style comm badge was 100% the same. So is the model of the Enterprise-E on display. And the flute.
