New Picard SDCC Trailer

Funny how many other current shows manage to look modern without being super choppy and almost incomprehensible at times. See BSG for another example of a modern sci-fi look done without this "style". There are plenty of shows currently airing I could have named also.

How is a show that ended nearly a decade ago considered "modern"? Also, understand that the style of shooting something isn't exactly an industry standard; it's an artistic choice. Just because other shows do it, doesn't mean all of them have to. And that fact alone shouldn't force other shows to be labeled more modern-looking than others.

Do you think you see see Olympus Mons? Just looks like stock red planet to me. Olympus Mons is much more defined.

You can see Valles Marineris in the south west.

And Kasei Valles north of that

Olympus Mons is beyond the horizon, far west of both features, so it's not visable.

I just saw the trailer. Top Gun Maverick made me feel some things and got my teary eyed. This....did not. But I'm reserving judgment until the show comes out. I think it started to lose me when the new crew reminded me of "Gambit", an episode of TNG I've never liked.

And yeah, Spiner probably has those white dots on his face for the CGI. I love that they can do that now...and it's getting better every year. And it can't be that expensive, as noted a few replies up. It's happening on Indian films now too....which most assuredly do NOT have Marvel budgets
I felt that way with Top Gun Maverick. I didn't feel a thing while watching that. I felt emotional with the Picard trailer. Pretty much the reverse of how you felt. That's me as well for the most part too though.

Something entirely different, that's so good and out of left field I didn't even notice the first time:

I LOVE all the variety in Romulan/Vulcan hairstyles! None of the repetitive bowlcuts, yet all distinctly alien. That's how to do different personalities in alien species!
Since the majority of Tal Shiar was defeated in DS9 and the Romulan Senate assasinated in Nemesis; could it be that the authoritarian military dictatorship over the Romulan people finally broke free?

Could a real Romulan Republic have taken hold and wanted to make peace with the UFP / even join the UFP.

Any of the old line Romulan Star Empire authoritarian Hawks would've been separated / banished from the new Romulan Republic?

In North Korea, there is a finite number of acceptable Hair Cuts because of the Kim regime.

A similar thing could've been imposed by the authoritarian regime under the Romulan Star Empire.

I'm pretty sure DS9 will not appear. That being said, the promenade could be largely green-screened in with minimal physical sets/props.

Whilst I'd love a link to DS9 in the series (and considering we've only seen a brief trailer of a ten episode series there still may be one), I'm more than happy with the nods to the past that have been announced thus far. Considering they emphasised when the series was announced that it wasn't a sequel to TNG, I imagined there would be limited references to the past so as to not alienate new viewers. I was therefore very pleasantly surprised to find out that not only will Data, Troi and Riker be appearing but also Seven and Hugh!

Given that the series is hopefully going to run for at least another season, as per Stewart's comment, I wouldn't be surprised if some more characters and locations from the past turn up further down the line.

In her case it makes sense, since she has a 20 year character development after her, so now she probably is more Annika Hansen than 7o9.

You're completely right, but it just feels a bit off in that trailer because we're not at a point yet of seeing that development in context. At least that's how I feel. YMMV. :)

Surprisingly they did not get the contacts right. The werent that bright and big with such a small lens, but they looked like pretty normal pupils, just yellow. I mean, how difficult is it to look at a close up picture of Spiner as Data to see, how the contacts have to be!?

The de-aging actually went much to far. Even Spiner did not have such a smooth skin. They should concentrate on making it a little thinner and less on removing wrinkles.

Data’s eyes look more consistent with the later films, which were different from the series.

Even 17 years after the last story?

If Star Trek had been off air for 17 years, maybe, but I rewatched Voyager 4 months ago and am currently going through TNG. I've seen enough.

I think we could have crested romulans and others that look more vulcans like elnor

He shall always be "K'Bar" to me.

What else is the stick for?

How insensitive. He might be visually impaired.

Then there's the fact that we saw Data in B4's body. Ergo the eyes and rest of body might not be down to the same exact spec as Data's original body. Plus who knows what amount of tinkering has gone on by StarFleet in between that time.

I'm sure that scientist who wanted to disassemble Data to study him would've LOVED to get his hand on B4, especially after what happened in Nemesis.
