But that is probably what the story is about! For example this first season seems to deal with the liberated Borg, thus it makes perfect sense to feature the three former Borg characters (Picard, Seven, Hugh) that we already have. Confidence in Disco vanished after it turned out that the writing on the first season was utterly terrible and only got worse after the season progressed. Season two was better but still unravewelled midway. With Disco they don't seem to have plan or a coherent creative vision. With Picard it seems that they have actually a concept they believe in, and probably at least an outline for the three seasons. Sure, they can still fuck it up, but it seems they have a solid starting point. Continuing the stories of existing characters is not nostalgia.
Yes, yes it is. Picard is nostalgic, Pike is nostalgic, Spock is nostalgic. Time will tell if it turns in to good stories. Enjoy, then. I've had my fill of Borg. Disagree.
Though if the merger does happen, and happens quick enough, it’s the perfect excuse needed by the conspiracy theorists to say “ah that’s why everything still looks the same in PIC” and then nobody ever needs to admit that they were completely wrong.
Since we know there is this Borg cube that the Romulans are using to experiment on humans with Borg tech, I wonder if some of the Borgified humans will go rogue and form a new Borg Collective and start assimilating. It would be an interesting way to do the Borg instead of having some vanilla Borg cube from the DQ with a Queen.
It's cool. I can see how I come across. The trailer feels like all the things fans complained about DSC. The story feels like it is ripping open old wounds for a beloved character unnecessarily. I hope I'm wrong.
This trailer is just amazing. I can't believe we're about to be getting more JLP. And Data! Seven! Riker and Troi! I almost can't believe it. We're finally moving forward in the timeline -- a true sequel to the TNG/DS9/VOY era. It's what I've wanted for almost 20 years. Finally!! I'm more excited about this show now than anything else being created in the entire genre, in Trek or Star Wars or anything else.
I am surprised how a lot of people react to Hugh, Data, Troi, Riker and 7o9 like they will be series regulars. They won't - they probably only have a one-scene cameo for a dialogue with Picard in the pilot.
In her case it makes sense, since she has a 20 year character development after her, so now she probably is more Annika Hansen than 7o9.
Fun fact: "Lower Decks" is the only Trek show since 2009 that uses all new characters set in a future after Nemesis. Its premise sound a little like an animated version of "The Orville".
I note the Generations-style comm badge was 100% the same. So is the model of the Enterprise-E on display. And the flute.
