Brave perhaps, but not what I’d want, as I love starships too much for them to be made completely superfluous.

It's not that I find the DSC ships 'ugly' per se (well, let's not talk about the Klingons, lol), it's that I find that most of the designs look far more advanced than what we saw in TOS, more like ships that we'd have seen post-TUC but pre-TNG. Eaves simply has a very limited design aesthetic when it comes to Starfleet vessels and the eras they supposedly belong to.

I feel like I'm looking forward to a quasi-new series next season. Wonder Woman's jump from the '40s to the '70s pales in comparison.

Are we ever going to see the Phaser 1 separated from the pistol grip on DSC?

I hope the budget is cut and one of out every four episodes takes place entirely on Discovery. We also need:

    1. An episode with memories from Airiam's Brain.

    2. An episode where Hipsters take over the Discovery and Saru jams with them.

    3. An episode where Burnham, Saru, Tilly, and Georgiou go on an intelligence mission to steal technology from the V'Draysh.

    4. An episode where Burnham keeps seeing her mother, who's trapped between time and space, but no one else does.

    5. An episode where George Washington appears, floating in space.

    6. An episode where a strange cloud appears that makes the Discovery crew and the new enemies of the season hate each other more than ever.

    7. A bottle-saving episode where almost all of it is shot on a black soundstage and that's what the entire set looks like. The Talosians make a reappearance.

I personally like them, but I like the Klingon ships too so what do I know?
Now why would they do that? That would be like giving the fans want they want or something ;)
    Why isn't this number one?

CBSAA doesn't like to air them in order anymore. I had no Control over it.

It will be interesting how they are portrayed. The ships from Voyager's 29th century were a sort of organic shaped blob that almost resembled sea creatures with shuttles that had sharp almost spear like wings. The Enterprise J was a city-like ship stretched along the horizontal axis with almost-pincer like nacelles.

Would they radically alter this perception of a crew manning a ship with a computer, or would the relationship between the ship's computer, the ship itself and the crew be more closer than the 23/24th centuries? What if the computer dictates more of the workings of the ship from a central command, and the crew are merely there along for the ride to facilitate their own personal research? What if Starfleet is merely a passive receptor to a fleet of sentient-like ships that do the day to day hard work of defending the Federation? How do these ships even look? Would the hulls of the ships even be solid as new technology means thinner and thinner hulls? Would there be more windows, more forcefields, would they even need hulls at all? What if holograms became so safe and power-efficient that entire ships were made of them, and humanoid crews lived on board them with holographic crew mates? Just as life support in the 22/23/24th centuries was full of endless safeguards, what if holography was just as safe? What if the entire of Starfleet were holographic and humanoids simply 'plugged' into ships from their respective planets?

So many endless ideas for some really intriguing storytelling.

^^^ absolutely agree! You raise some good points about the relationship between ship / crew, and their evolving roles to play, in a Trek future.

Me, I just love starships - and in many respects (depending on the franchise / story / IP) I often like the vessel more than the human / alien characters they carry.

So my want to see starships is (probably) counter to the storytelling potential of a future Trek plotline.

As others have posited, I also view Trek starships as characters in their own right, so a Trek without at least one starship (prominent or not) would be lacking (from my POV) but not a deal-breaker.

Look a little deeper than numbers on a casting sheet.

Do you think we'll ever see a female Connolly-type, patronising character, who's killed off so triumphantly as he was? No. That characters was literally designed to give something for feminists to cheer. Likewise Leland with his "Women! Stop talking." before being brutally killed, another thing for the feminists to cheer over.

The fact that you need to include Rhys, Bryce and Linus on the male side says it all.

Also, Nillson and Airiam should be separate characters. They didn't need to replace the latter with another female character, but they did (and yes I know the reason why)

Detmer and Owo? Bridge furniture? I think you're thinking of Rhys and Bryce, the two bridge officers they refuse to give an development to, both male obv.

    Developed female characters:

    1. Burnham
    2. Tilly
    3. Georgiou
    4. Cornwell
    5. Amanda
    6. Detmer
    7. Owosekun
    8. Airiam
    9. Nhan
    10. Reno
    11. Pollard
    12. L'Rell
    13. Number One
    14. Siranna

    Developed male Characters:

    1. Pike
    2. Saru
    3. Stamets
    4. Culber
    5. Tyler
    6. Spock
    7. Leland
    8. Sarek

What exactly did Pollard do besides being snarky? Even Kol'Sha, Kol's dad was fleshed out at least as much in his one single appearance. Or maybe even Tenavik. But then again, why is Kol himself omitted? We knew his family relations, his motivations, saw him interact with Voq and L'Rell, and he was an arc villain, that's at least as much characterization as Siranna got. She also has a grand total of two appearances in the main series, not counting the Short Trek, she wasn't really on screen for more than T'Kuvma, but he's missing as well. And so does Lorca.

Seriously, if Pollard's snarkiness is indicative of her being a 'developed character', then Rhys must be included as a developed male character as well as we saw him try to hit on Tilly once when they were playing beer pong.

I've said it once, I'll say it again. Connolly is a bog-standard Star Trek staple character, the annoying smartass killed by their own stupidity, nothing else. Discovery already had someone like him in the first season. Her name was Ellen Landry.

Still not getting the issue? They can all be female for all I care, provided they clean up the writing issues.

Because there is no issue. It's a complaint centered around perceived unbalance, which has never existed in Trek in the first place. DSC, for all that I like it, is still playing with tropes that Trek has played with pretty much since its inception.

In the 1st couple of episodes I'd like to see some callback to the 23rd century, while Tyler, Pike, Number One, Spock are all part of Starfleet and part of the 'Discovery, what Discovery'... i.e. no mention of it. I have to think that Po, Amanda or Sarek knowing where Discovery was aiming for, would not leave some sort of message only to be released at a certain point at time... based on what we saw and know about Po, nothing would surprise me if her descendents weren't waiting
