No worries amigo, I took it as intended  Those are elements of accuracy that still present a challenge at this stage that I desperately wish I could replicate to my own satisfaction. :bolian:

Now if I could just nail this Klingon ship, it's presented a much bigger challenge than anticipated. :brickwall::censored:;)

Funny enough, I stumbled across a selection arguably more appropriate for a Toho "Trek" as it was used in "The Mysterians", Toho's first venture into extraterrestrial menace. Composed by Ifukube, the piece would be reused in later kaiju films, usually synced with the military scenes.

This one was harder to translate to a (relatively) lower budgeted, rocket age design. I imagine that in the world this show existed, the suits were unhappy with the bizarre designs for the ships as other shows of the day reflected the more "believable" rockets that were heralding the dawning Rocket Age. The Klingonian ship would be the point where the suits said "enough!" and directed the producers to start moving towards more traditional designs, something more inline with the televised sci-fi of the day. Also to boost sales cuz the kids wanted rocket ships to play with, not these more outlandish ships. Later generations would praise the "out of the box" thinking of course

I think you got it right, looks rocket-ish enough, maybe if it isn't '50's enough add a tailfin on top, otherwise I would say it is cool. :mallory:

Quick question: Anyone know how I can link my images to Deviant Art instead of Photobucket? Typically the images I post here have been through Photobucket, but they're trying to force people to pay and I ain't doing that. The end result is that my images now have a Photobucket watermark on them that totally fucks up the image. I just checked the images in the UESPA book thread and they have the watermark. Fuck, the thought of having to post all those images again in a new thread :censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored:

I was going to post some images of the Rom and Kling ship with astronauts for scale, but I ain't doing that with a watermark on 'em.

Imgur is my preferred hosting platform, as it has no watermarks.

Cool, will check 'em out. Weird thing, going back and checking the images, they don't have the watermark at the moment. Checked on my phone, and it's the same. Don't know what's going on, are they visible to everyone else? I figured out the DA thing...we'll see how this works out.

Here's a couple of quick pics mainly just to get a sense of scale for the alien ships. Nothing fancy.

It's moments like these where I wish Star Trek had an equivalent to FFG's Star Wars Armada (miniatures ship battle game that is well balanced), because I'd like to fly your 55 alternates in lieu of the main ships. Sadly, such game does not exist :(

Would love to see more takes on these two. The last ship of the classic lineup is the Tholian Webspinner (though I suppose the Romulan modified D7 might also count). Any thoughts?

    Doesn't this count? https://wizkids.com/attackwing/star-trek-attack-wing/

And that Klingon ship take is fantastic!

Nah. Attack wing is an unbalanced cut-and-paste theme on a game designed to simulate space fighters. I'd want to invest in something with quality. And also a system that didn't treat d7s and bops as disposable as AW does.

Glad the Klingon ship is getting some love, though I still feel like it's missing something.

Only vaguely familiar with the games you're talking about, but yeah, it would be cool to have miniatures of these ships. Hell, I'd love to have models of all the various Enterprises I've done. Now that I think about it, I've done versions from the 1940's, 1950's, and early 1960's.

Funny you mention the Tholian ship as I was toying with trying to work up a version of that next. Oddly, these ships only exist because I hit a wall on the non-Trek retro sci-fi project I was working on and I started wondering "what if....." which is pretty much how everything I do starts.

In the meantime, when I have time this week, I'll throw up a few more images. One thing I love about this 50's verse is that simplicity is the order of the day.

    That's what 3d printing is for :)
    What about Balok's ship?

Also, I love the Tholians and think they need some love here too. Could also have fun with Station K-7.
Perhaps a fin on top of the back part?

I keep overlooking Balok's ship because it's on an order of magnitude over most of the other ships (at least, whenever I consider my own attempts to make trek games B) ). Connie/D7/BoP/Tholian/RomD7 is the "classic" lineup I consider of TOS vessels in combat games.

There are other ships of course, like the Botany Bay/Mudd's ship/Klingon scout ship etx, but typically those are craft you go out of your way to go find and aren't truly representative of the era. Not as much as the big three plus two.

If you can export to .obj file, Shapeways can accept them. Then it's a matter of re-sizing them.

I've ported over some models of my own to Shapeways and used the same key that X-Wing uses for their bases (thanks to MelMiniatures, who did the work to recreate them). I have little impulse cash these days to make the models, but I wouldn't mind holding your era variations in my hand and doing things *with* them... such as using them in a game/RPG setting of some kind.

There are two fin like protrusions on the back of the secondary hull. Maybe I should make them a little more pronounced?

    Here's a couple of K-7 shots:

Not sure if I'll build any more new models for right now, but will probably generate a few more images since I've got the models. I was originally working on a non-Trek retro sci-fi project, and will probably play around more with it for a bit. Once I get something I'm happy with, I'll probably post images of that.

The Lensman was kind enough to let me post this altered version of his render.

Through pretty much dumb luck, I used one of the image editing tools that comes with Windows 10 to create a "kinescope" effect. In the days of live television, presentations were often preserved by literally positioning a movie camera in front of a video monitor to record the footage. But the process often resulted in creating a "hot spot" upon the frames. My "mucking about" resulted in recreating this "flaw" in archival transfer. Given the year of the Lensman's hypothetical production, it's possible it was recorded "live" as many other programs of that decade. Any "preserved" episodes would likely exist from being "kinescoped". (Can that be used as a verb?)
