    Acknowledged. New clue . . . .
    1. Look, my SATS were off the charts.

    Space Seed?
    1. MCCOY: No, I'm good, but not that good. There's something inside this man that refuses to accept death. Look at that. Even as he is now, his heart valve action has twice the power of yours and mine. Lung efficiency is fifty percent better.

With regret for your newfound immortality, no, sorry.

Oooh, good guess. You know something about oxygen efficiency and lung function. Nice. However, it appears WE will do well in YOUR time.

    1. Look, my SATS were off the charts.
    2. He's intelligent, but not experienced . . . or maybe he's experienced, but not intelligent.

Garth, I mean "Lord Garth". Garth of Izar, former Starship Fleet Captain and master of the universe?

    1. His past exploits were impressive.
KIRK: When I was a cadet at the Academy, his exploits were required reading. He was one of my heroes.
    2. Garth, I mean "Lord Garth" was both intelligent and experienced, but extremely insane.
KIRK: He was such a genius. What a waste.

OOPS. (I'm playing both and went insane.)
My corrected answer is Whom Gods Destroy for the same reasons, above. Thanks for the catch.

Correct! (Hey, if you're going to inhabit a Vulcan's body, we need to be technical, now.)

    1. Scotty, in a line I have always loved, says he can't believe that Kirk is "testing" him.
    2. Garth is experienced, but not intelligent, due to his madness. Further clues might have aimed at . . . ah, never mind, I'll save those.

    You're up, my beglobed friend!

1st Clue: A chemical that is both helpful and harmful.

Cordrazine. "XYZ drops can save a man's life." But exceed the UFPDA recommended dosage and you'll be defeating back-turned transporter chiefs and escaping to parts unknown in no (heh) time.

Actually, a lot of it is helpful, but a little bit is harmful. You only get a B+ in Chemistry this semester.

2nd Clue: There are some really high and very low moments.

The Cloud Minders? (Probably a little too obvious.)

Obvious and correct. :techman: I was impatient to get to Droxine :adore: (sorry @johnnybear, no Vanna pix :weep:):

    The Cloud Minders
1st Clue: A chemical that is both helpful and harmful.

Zenite is the one substance that can halt the botanical plague. It is also in the air in the mines which causes retardation and emotional difficulties in the Troglytes.
2nd Clue: There are some really high and very low moments.
We adventure from the cloud city of Stratos down to the zenite mines deep underground.

A thousand thanks for this excellent explanation. No, just the explanation, nothing else. Nothing else you simultaneously posted too. Zip.

Thank you. So often the clues are so cryptic, that I can't be sure I get the right answer even when I do but not this time.;)

    Random selection...

    Clue:
    1) A fiction that takes root in reality.

Patterns of Force? John Gill's romanticized version of the Nazi regime is false, but it takes firm root on Ekos.

"Patterns Of Force" turns out to be a weak answer...
