You clearly have no clue about how suspension of disbelief works nor how we're supposed to approach "realtiy" within a sci-fi or fantasy context.

BECAUSE it's a movie about space wizards makes it all the more important and incumbent on the creators to make the rest of it make sense.

You already have so many big buys about the universe, about its magic, about its rules. You're allowed that, that's the point, But you don't get to just say, "aw fuck it" all the time because you're in a genre movie. So just doing other stupid shit willy nilly is even more stupid and irresponsible.

Yes, I actually demand that people think about things when they make movies, even "silly movies about space wizards" and not just do whatever the fuck all the time because, "oh, the movie's already stupid, so who gives a shit?"

    Otherwise nothing fucking matters.

It also doesn't mean I have to take as literal truth either.

Well, in the grand scheme, it doesn't, so there is that.

From leaked footage and pictures of the new Star Trek Picard series, I've put together a 'Star Trek Magazine' style view of what the Starfleet uniforms look like form that era. [IMG]

I wonder if they switched the colors again for these uniforms. Maybe gold is once again for command and red for operations? The overall look of the uniforms undeniably still conveys the TNG era, but maybe another switch in division colors might indicate things have changed a bit as the 25th-Century approaches?

The 22nd - 23rd century's "Red Shirts must die" stigma has taken a long time to resolve. They attempted to removed them entirely in the 2270s, but morale fell. Than everyone was in a Red unifom for the better part of a century. Only the second half of the 24th century has gone back to the three division colors, but because the commander liked their old red uniforms, Starfleet switched the old pattern so that it was Command Red, rather than "Ensign Ricky's gonna died today" Red. I don't see the traditionalist going back to Command Gold or Green in the near (25th century) future.

Well, it WOULD give a whole new meaning/take on the famous line from "The Prisoner":

    "Who is Number One?" ;)

They said that Picard will be changed quite a bit by the time of the new show, hopefully though he is still recognisably the same character and wont be doing stuff too out of the ordinary.

His young captain days are over. His artificial heart is a reminder of his brashness. He's been the wise captain (though some would question that) for a decade or so. He had his mid-life crisis during the last two films. Than he retired after some incident (which may or may not be related to Romulas). His had some time to reflect while growing grapes.

Then log off the Trek BBS and stop wasting your time on stuff that "doesn't matter."

There's nothing wrong with engaging in a conversation about the text of a story. But if you're just going to throw your hands up at every point and say, "Well, fantasy movie, so who cares", followed by "it's all just fiction anyway, so who cares? Wheeeee!" then maybe your time would be better spent elsewhere?

There is discussion and then there is anger and calling something "fucking stupid." If I don't enjoy it I don't watch it, pure and simple. But, it is an artistic expression which means "literal truth" is not something I take offense at, or find stupid. Sorry, I just don't. It isn't worth the emotional energy to me.

Also, please don't tell me how to spend my time. I enjoy conversations and getting to know people. I know people care about this stuff, but calling it "fucking stupid" is where I strikes me as odd. So, I would rather have a conversation about these attitudes than just be dismissed out of hand. In my opinion, relationships matter far more than the art we discuss. No, Star Trek doesn't matter. But, the people I talk to they matter.

    But, you do you.

    You have a great day!

I love the symbolism of the sunset too presumably in relation to Picard twilight years.

I'm not picard but my heart functions with the aid of an implant. the older I get the more reckless I get, I suppose. I can start to look at a list of responsibilities with checkmarks on them and what's left to lose?

I could see Picard, apart from growing grapes, being more of a risk taker and bon vivant than he had been before.
If the teaser ended with him setting down that case of wine bottles, then beaming over to Monaco playing dom jot with some Orion and Caitlan hotties while chugging Courvosier straight from the bottle while Coming Up Deep played, well.. a man can dream.

Maybe he's got an upgraded heart that makes him even tougher. Augmented Picard might be full of surprises.
As long as he doesn't channel his former Locutus self!

He'll look like his Mirror Universe counterpart from the comic books. They'll use cutting edge CG tech to put Patrick Stewart's head onto Big Poppa Pump Scott Steiner's body.

He'll have his blood type and nanoprobe-cancelling formula branded onto his farmer's boots because he's that bad ass.
He'll invent a flaming drink using Vodka and Saurian Brandy called a Brother Robert because he's that bad ass. He'll make a variant with Romulan Ale called a Flaming Hobus because nique ta mère, branleur.

He will use a holosuite for the sole purpose of talking to holo-Robau and holo-Chuck Norris about bad-assery, the only possible colleagues he can have now.

I have a feeling that first along, he's going to be considered a second fiddle by the other characters in the first episode.

From the trailer, it almost sounds like he's been away long enough for most folks to believe that he died.
