Obviously, conversation should be about more than plain facts.

Curzon was Jadzia's "handler", whatever they called it... when she was an initiate, and was an ass to her, but secretly had a thing for her, and that somehow explained it. I forget how...

He was her Field Docent, her supervisor and evaluator. He fell in love with her but realised how inappropriate it was, so made her life hell to make her quit. He supported her application to re-enter the programme to ease his guilt over his feelings and what he did to her because of them.

Despite being a diplomat, the Klingons seem to know him as a fellow fighter as well. They never made it clear as to wether Jadzia learned the Batleth or was it Kurzon who was a pro with that weapon? Seems like it was passed on knowledge.

It would still have to be relearned (muscle memory and whatnot), but it would be easier than learning from scratch.

The first time we saw Jadzia using the Batleth she was already pretty good. Although they don't say for sure, the implication is she remembered a lot of how to use it.

Also, Jadzia liked to exercise in general, wrestling and all, thus apparently embracing some of the hobbies of the past hosts. Ezri was uncomfortable with that stuff early on - but then again, she was new to this business, and perhaps all hosts ultimately try to master all the skills of their predecessors, suitably adjusting their bodies and lifestyles to accommodate this. Probably often with good results, which is why being host is such a coveted thing.

Curzon was one to keep secrets. This peeping-into-one's-past ritual that Jadzia did in "Facets" seemed compulsory, yet out of the past hosts, Curzon and Joran still were capable of surprising her. This probably takes some doing, and might relate to Curzon's success as a diplomat. An acquired skill, or a natural gift put to good use?

Jadzia's skill with a bat'leth may actually not ALL come from Curzon - I could see her learning a few moves in order to impress him when she was his student, since she knew of his respect for the Klingons.

As for gakelly's comment that the writers basically made him the Fonz, remember he's viewed through the glasses of respect for the dead by people who liked him. I'm sure he pissed off just as many people, and got slapped in the face by just as many women as he bedded.

Those same writers also gave Sisko a pretty good line about Curzon's stubborness and arrogance, and how some people let him get away with it, but Sisko knew to confront him when he went too far. That line could easily apply to Trump. I don't see Curzon as THAT bad, but creeping on a student and then making her life hell to get her to quit so he'd be free of temptation isn't the act of a saint, even if he did feel bad enough to back her re-application later.

There's something strange about Curzon and Sisko. We are led to believe that Sisko and Curzon went on some pretty wild sexcapades together(with girls) and got into all sorts mischief. Was this when Sisko was in his 20's and Curzon in his 80's?

I really liked the season one Dax episode, eponymously titled "Dax"... written by DC Fontana and directed by David Carson, and guest starring Anne Haney, how could it not be good? (But there's the exception to every rule, too... :) )

But overall, I do prefer stories where Dax is a supporting character. E.g. "Sons of Mogh", where she is given some great moments. Many of here primary character stories didn't do much for me either.

Speaking of which, I'm currently watching "Let He Who is Without Sin," which revealed another thing about Curzon that I completely forgot. His death, depicted in "Emissary" IIRC, was actually brought on by Risian Jamaharon.

But maybe most Dax live to be 175 or so.
So it would have been like two 20 somethings out carousing.
And even as an average human, who hadn't seen an older person like 60+ that is fit and active? They can surely carouse as well as a lot of younger people.

Perhaps. He's supposed to be about 100 years old when he dies, and looks very elderly.

I was trying to figure out the timeline. Sisko can be no younger than 36 at the start of the show, and no older than his early 40's. Jadzia had to have been joined no more than 5 years before the show.

How long was Sisko single after graduating? He's supposed to have started talking to Jennifer before his first assignment as an ensign. When did he meet the possibly elderly Curzon? Ehh.. whatever. I'll figure it out later.

It would have been nice to have fleshed out the character more considering the friendship with Sisko. It would have been nice to have a flashback episode with a storyline involving Sisko, Curzon, and Jadzia, considering she would eventually get the Dax symbiont .

Not sure what you're implying here - that she should have already figured them out from previous peeps? Jadzia had never undertaken the ritual before, and Curzon was the last host prior, so she wouldn't have any info on him until she peeped herself. As for Joran, his memories were suppressed so the hosts that came after him wouldn't see him in their peeps (until Jadzia uncovered the truth and reintegrated his memories). So she's the first to ever peep in on him. In both cases, there's ample room for them to surprise her.

If you're arguing that she should already know things due to her symbiont memories, we don't know if hosts get full chapter and verse on the memories of their previous hosts right up front, or if they only come to the fore if needed or if the symbiont feels sharing is useful. Dax itself may have some respect for the privacy of certain memories - though isn't prudish given Jadzia's remembering of Leonard McCoy's skill with his hands...

I would argue that we know that they do not.
The fact that Curzon in Odo's body could know things that Jadzia didn't demonstrates that the symbiont does not just share every memory it has with the host.

It's a contrast thing - when Jadzia looks into the past of the symbiont for the first time, nothing about the other hosts stands out as being in contradiction of what she already knows (save for the special case Joran).

Are we supposed to think, then, that when Curzon did his mandatory peek into the symbiont, this somehow later on provided Jadzia with extra information on everybody but Curzon (and, yes, yes, the special case Joran)? How would that happen? If getting the symbiont gives you an info dump, Curzon would be included in Jadzia's. If doing the ritual gives you that, then again Curzon should not stand out in contrast with the rest.

Were all the other hosts simply dull and forthright people? Or, conversely, even better at keeping their dark secrets than Curzon? Indeed, was it only thanks to Odo's abilities that the persona of Curzon got so excited he slipped away secrets no host persona (except, yes, we get it, the weirdo Joran) otherwise would?

Or was/is Curzon simply as much a psychopath as Joran, and therefore breaks out of the mold?
