Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel - First Time Viewer

So I understand your argument, are you saying that corporations will control the internet to such an extent it will become prohibitively expensive?

I’m not sure what you mean by overhauled. The only way offering current services will ever be expensive is if one group attains a monopoly.

Yep I think the corporations will have more control via government bribery. It's kind of shocking that we had as much freedom as we did for as long as we did. Things like this are usually not allowed for the common folk. It will be something just for the rich.

Why are people talking about flip phones like they are ancient? My current phone is a flip phone. It's also what all future phones will look like once this current fad or mobile devices or whatever we call them goes away.
Actually, flip phones have been shown to be a fad. My first cell phone which I got in 1998, was not a flip phone. Those didn't come into vogue for a few years. They were around for a while and are mostly gone.

I think one problem is the necessary size of the screens for today's phones. A flip phone version of the largest phones today would seem to make those phones too big.

Family

This episode was beautiful, except for one thing. I didn't really like how one dimensional Tara's family was. They were so dead set on her coming back, but there was never any motivation as to why. I get the episode was about family doesn't have to be blood kin, but I really wish there was more meat around the bones of the "evil" family. Close families aren't all evil.

Other than that, there was plenty to like about this episode. For one, I was shocked Amy Adams was in it. I did not expect that. I also liked Spike actually jumping in to help Buffy, another sign that maybe the chip wasn't removed, but maybe it was altered some how. That's the only explaination I have for the dreams of him and Buffy "doing it" together. I also, of course loved the sentiment, that at the beginning of the episode Tara felt distanced from the Scooby Gang, but now she's 100% involved. Her and Willow's scene at the end was pretty emotional.

It's amazing were you would find Amy Adams in her pre-fame days. She did a season 1 "Smallville" episode were she played a overweight girl who got effected by meteor rock and lost it all but craved food and even wanted to eat people. She was in a bad "Cruel Intentions" sequel. She did have what I though was a memorable role as a girlfriend for Jim in season 1 of "The Office."

Family is such a sweet episode. The ending scene is so beautiful. Their love is so magical that it literally makes them float. :adore:

This episode also explains why Tara sabotaged the spell she and Willow did to find a demon (season 4), because she was afraid that she would be outed as a demon.

Fool for Love

Well, that episode was incredibly dense. I guess if Angel got an origin story episode in Becoming I, Spike needed one too. This was a great episode for him, revealing his journey to where he is and actually showing how he killed the two slayers. I also loved they actually showed the scene in South America when Drusilla broke up with him. So I might have been wrong about the whole Chip thing in a previous post. Evidently Spike has always been infatuated with Buffy, which is interesting considering who he is and what we've seen of him. The very end scene is supposed to be of comfort, but I found it incredibly creepy. Here we have Buffy worried about Joyce, and then Spike comes in with a gun, puts the gun down and pats her on the back to comfort her. I mean goodness just thinking about that creeps me out.

As I said, this was a great origin story for Spike. Loved seeing his roots going all the way back to the beginning, especially how he got the Spike nickname. Also, I forgot all about Darla but man I was glad Drusilla was back, even if in Flashbacks. They really do know how to bring things full circle.

As for Buffy's death wish scene, a scene I actually watched twice, Remember when I called another episode ominous for things to come. We are dealing a lot with death and destiny this year. I find that very ominous indeed.

Aren't we waiting for the phones with folding screens right now? I for one would certainly like a phone that fits in my pocket.

Shadow

I think I found the corny Snake everyone was hinting at from Season 3. Man that thing kinda looked bad, and Buffy riding it like a donkey was...interesting to say the least.

Anyway, enough of that story. Glory seems to be a glorified Season 1 Cordelia so far. Hope there is more to her in the coming episodes.

The main take away from this episode is Joyce's storyline and Buffy having to take on the role of mother figure. This storyline is really distressing, but very raw and emotional. With everything Buffy has to do, the threat of outliving a parent is hard. She's not only learning what it means to be a Slayer, I think she's learning what it means to be a parent, a role she probably didn't want but needs to have. Having to shield Dawn from everything is tough, but as we found out in episode 5, she's a protector and she's being anchored by those around her. I'm really enjoying what Buffy is going through this season. It's personal, but it's a different kind of personal from Season 2, in that it's family responsibility and dealing with real world family trauma.

I am interested in Riley's story. Other than a few episodes ago, have we seen Sandy before? I know Riley's questioning his relationship with Buffy, and Buffy is starting to focus on everything else, but I can't really get a handle on Riley right now. Was he bitten? That whole storyline so far seems weird and so out of the blue with everything else going on.

Nope. Glory is just Glory. Nothing more to her. Absolutely nothing.

Hence I hope there is more to her in upcoming episodes. I mean she's 1000s of years old and part of an egyptian cult. There has to be.

Listening to Fear

Man this Joyce storyline is really hitting the feels hard. I can take or leave the Queller plotline, but watching Buffy break down as she was doing the dishes was really hard to watch. That end scene with Buffy and Joyce talking about Dawn was quite emotional. It's almost a foregone conclusion what is going to happen but I really don't want to say anything yet. Watching this breakdown unfold really does point in a very sad direction. :(

The Queller demon is one of three demons in the entire show (besides Der Kinderstod) that freaks me out!

It was creepy but considering everything else that was happening, there wasn’t really much to say about it. Actually there is one thing. It actually reminded me of the Aliens from Voyager’s Equinox two part episode, only bigger and slightly uglier.

Glory is definitely meant to feel a lot like Cordelia. In part.

Throughout Buffy's "growing up" period (Seasons 1-5), she has three distinct shadow selves: Cordelia, Faith, and Dawn. Glory is basically a super-exaggerated - and ultimately corrupted - manifestation of the first two. The Cordelia aspect just stands out more because her personality is so flamboyantly distinct. But there are lines of dialog that are definitely written in a voice very similar to Faith's.

More importantly, though, each of the shadow selves represents an element of Freudian personality theory. Cordy/Id, Faith/Ego, Dawn/Superego. Unfortunately, I don't think this was fleshed out as well as it could have been - another casualty of Crouse leaving. Walsh introduced the concept in "Hush." But there was never any follow up. I believe that had Walsh stayed around, she would have had her own scene in Willow's "Restless" dream that explores this further. I also think that it's likely Tara's dialog in Dawn's bedroom during Buffy's dream was originally written for her. But I digress...

But for the sake of brevity (And to avoid spoilers.), let's just say there's a barrier between Glory's Id and Ego and her superego - which is why she presents with schizophrenic symptoms. Therefore stealing Buffy's is the key to her eternal happiness. And I'll let you infer whatever implications for Buffy you want to.

Oh. And I wasn't sure if I should even say this, but since it's out of context it should be okay. (Also, I'm bored.)

But in the Angel episode that aired the same night as Family, Cordelia literally says, "Reflected glory? That's my thing."

And, of course, Family is were Buffy compares Glory to Cordelia and Tara makes her insect reflection joke.

It's plausible, but I think the more likely scenario is corporations get complete control of content. So we'd still have the phones, just we'd only see what they want us to see and could no longer put our own content on without paying out. If people without money couldn't get the Internet, big corporations would lose a lot of money.

Glory is basically distilled Cordelia, plus super strength, minus empathy.

I kinda understand what you guys are saying, but I'm still a little confused about Glory, especially when it comes to Faith. I really haven't noticed any Faith qualities in her yet, but then she's only been in 4 episodes so far.

I did notice a flip phone in the Queller episode last night. Riley had one so they were around at this time, at least for the Government.
