Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel - First Time Viewer

With how fast your going your about to reach what many might call the best episode the show has ever did. It's not mine but it is the second best episode the show ever did.

After the season 5 finale, you'll be amazed at how accurate the phrase "stick the landing" was!

I think seasons 2, 3 and 5 are the best seasons.

When Dawn was introduced I wondered for a second if she was living with her father up to that point or something. That first episode established one important thing: She can invite vampires into her house, making her a human with a soul who lives there.

I wonder what it was like when this series aired. I mean I’m sure after the second episode of the season people were just as confused as I was when it came to Dawn. Who was this character, why is she masquerading as Buffy’s long lost sister and why does everyone know her. I could just picture of that episode aired today in this social media world and how chaotic that would be. Of course knowing what I know of this series to have the reveal 3 episodes later was not surprising in hindsight but how they did it was where the excitement came in. This is why the 22 episode season can be beneficial. It builds the characters, universe, and allows things to grow organically. You just need writers that understand how pacing works and these writers (and I would say a great example of a shortened season is The Expanse so also those writers) have that mastered down.

Just as an FYI I believe you are coming very close to the next Big 4 episode.

I was told it was sometime in the back half of the season which starts in about 7 episodes from now.

You know tonight is the start of the Stanley Cup Final and I’m more looking forward to continuing Buffy. That’s how much I enjoyed those stretch of episodes last night.

Season 5 was the first season I watched in real time, after catching (and getting addicted to) seasons 1-4 in reruns the summer before it aired. Dawn's arrival was the best wtf moment I've ever seen on tv - literally mind-blowing - and I was completely at the edge of my seat trying to figure it out right up until the reveal happened.

I just stumbled across this series the other day, it's a new series that features a younger version of Buffy living in Cleveland, with a new supporting cast.

I think stuff like this and the new alt-continuity Boom! ongoing comic and its Angel spin-off comic existing is really awesome. Buffy and Angel were amazing live-action superhero series at a time when live-action superhero series were typically way less than amazing. It's only fitting that they have their own "Elseworlds" continuities.

Look at it this way: your choice is either rooting for the Blues :barf2: or watching Boston win another championship.

And if I was a conspiracy theorist Sharks fan, the Refs screwed up the hand pass and told the blues it was open season to hit any sharks player in the head and avoid punishment. Still it’s been a week and I think I am rooting for the Blues. They deserve it more than Boston does.

I'm catching up on about 15 pages worth of thread and multi-quote has failed me, so I'll just say ...

1) I freaking love "Hush." For me, that was the moment when BtVS went from just a really good TV show to a brilliant work that was going to make a serious contribution to the genre.

2) People rip on Dawn a lot, but I always liked her. The only thing that throws me a little is the inconsistency with the way she was written at the beginning of the season. Before Michelle Trachtenberg was cast, Dawn had been conceived as a preteen, so there are random moments in her first few episodes where she's written as significantly more immature or naive than a 21st-century 14-year-old (particularly one with a big sister) would actually be.

So it's set in the Wish Alt Universe that Anya made?
I haven't actually read it, but as far as I can tell from the Buffy wiki and Amazon it's it's own completely separate thing, with no real connections to the show beyond having a blond girl named Buffy as the Slayer and the main character.

Hush was a High risk high reward episode. You can tell in season 4 there was confidence to do something like that. That says a lot for the production that goes into it to have an experimental episode like that and make it work.

I hear it’s just supposed to be Buffy but set in modern times. That just means they all have phones now. :)

You know I was thinking about this today and thank you for reminding me. When did Cell Phones become a thing. Am I too early or shouldn’t they have at least the flip phone by now (2000, 2001). I was a late adopter to the whole cell phone thing but I have to think they are close to when Flip Phones were common place.

Cell phones didn't really go clamshell until 2003 with the popular Motorola ones being 2004. Buffy was right on the cusp of it all I think but they do make an appearance at some point.
