After fighting with a certain texture all night I finally broke down and did the unthinkable: I actually unwrapped texture coordinates of a model for the first time in my CG modeling career! And, to spectacular results, I might add.
It's still simple geometry, but I finally figured out how to use that damned modifier in 3ds Max. I've always used simple texture mapping in the past and have never had to split texture seams and alter a mesh's coordinates before.
Oh, and I was also able to use another plug-in script that I hadn't used before. It sure made my job of modeling this knob a hell of a lot easier! Totally doable in many other ways, but this was super-speedy!
Sorry, CG-nerd stuff over for now.
