Surely something good happened to you today

After fighting with a certain texture all night I finally broke down and did the unthinkable: I actually unwrapped texture coordinates of a model for the first time in my CG modeling career! And, to spectacular results, I might add. :D It's still simple geometry, but I finally figured out how to use that damned modifier in 3ds Max. I've always used simple texture mapping in the past and have never had to split texture seams and alter a mesh's coordinates before.

Oh, and I was also able to use another plug-in script that I hadn't used before. It sure made my job of modeling this knob a hell of a lot easier! Totally doable in many other ways, but this was super-speedy! :D

Sorry, CG-nerd stuff over for now. :p

Had a fun day with my friends; we toured the Hagely House & Museum. Very interesting -- lovely grounds but definitely NOT very handicapped -accessible for my friend. Still, we had a nice day and had a great dinner. Now I'm all comfy in bed, bundled up (they keep their house at 60 F ), but it's nice to finally wear my fleece pajamas. Tomorrow, they're taking me to Nemours. Last year, they took me to Winterthur. My friend's husband joked that they were running a du Pont tour. ;)

I was kind of desperate to get this laser "tape measure" yesterday, so I went to Guitar Center to sell an 88-key keyboard MIDI controller I wasn't using anymore and didn't have room for, anyway. I'd already gone to Pawn America with it a couple of weeks ago, but they told me that I needed my own computer so they could test it. I don't have a portable computer capable of running Windows Explorer much less a laptop capable of running a VST host.

So, checked Guitar Center's site to make sure they bought stuff, went to my closest store, asked someone if they were buying keyboard controllers, got it from my car, and sold it for almost twice what Pawn America said they'd give me if they were able to make sure it was fully working.

Had a lovely experience in the end! Got my laser measurer, my impact drill attachment, a couple of my favorite screwdrivers (somehow they keep disappearing. Hand tools have a habit of doing that in this house!) and another laundry basket. Oh, and a battery to go in the Lexus remote because the battery in my fob died. No, it's not my Lexus! I just have a fob in case I need to move it when my housemate is not available--like during one of my all-nighters.

One week from tomorrow will be the 1-year anniversary of my dad's death.

I stumbled on a post in a group I'm part of on Facebook that someone was giving away some stuff that had been given to them and now that they're moving their lightening their load. I saw this and instantly recognized it:

That is the exact same model of drafting table from the early- to mid-20th Century that my dad's dad used to have that my dad inherited and passed on to me. When I went through my first divorce, that table was left at my ex's house in the hopes that one of her foster children might be able to use it as an art table. I was a little less sentimental back then, but I also wanted it to go to good use. For all I know, it was destroyed with a hammer along with my rather nice computer desk.

These last few days have been exceptionally emotional for me, mostly in awesome, amazing ways.

Very like the tables used for my high school drafting class. I hope most of your memories associated with it are good and that your day today will be most excellent.
