First Picard Show pic!

From Kurtzmans own mouth:

“Picard’s life was radically altered by the dissolution of the Romulan Empire,” Kurtzman revealed to The Hollywood Reporter this afternoon. The explosion of the Hobus star — which created a supernova that destroyed the Romulan homeworld (and sent Spock back in time to the Kelvin universe) in the 2009 Star Trek film — sets the stage for where we’ll find our captain when the Picard series debuts.

Also the uniforms are definitely Online inspired, so could that confirm Countdown (which has been reissued in various forms more than most modern comics) us part of Kurtzmans canon; so it's about a decade before this new show, Picard is ambassador to Vulcan; Data's memory had been downloaded onto B4 and he captains the Enterprise E; Worf is a General with the Klingon Defence Force and Geordi is a civilian engineer. In the end, they believe Spock sacrificed himself to save millions from Nero

Yup. Like that retardigrade drive. Off topic, sorry.

Anyway so Romulus is destroyed in this show. I didnt remember the mind-melt from ST09. And since allmighty Kurtzmann said it aswell...
Yeah, sorry. I never put much stock into the line of magical thinking that if you repeat something often enough you can speak it into existence.

Nope

The Tardigrade going FTL and being Human sized wasn’t made public knowledge by the game’s creator until after most of Season 1 of Discovery had already been written and shot.

It’s just a coincidence. Neither side copied each other.

This is all I’ll say on the subject here, we have a thread dedicated to this in the DSC subforum if you want more info.

I am watching TNG S1. All the cast have uniforms that fit loosely and seem comfortable. I am not sure how that evolved over the years but even Voyager had creasy uniforms. Even the Hologram!

Thinking about it - maybe they are frumpy and dumpy like the early DS9 uniforms to invoke the feeling of the 90s before they pull the rug from us after Starfleet tells Picard to bugger off and he has to put together his crew.
yes also the scenes looks to be played for lols so maybe having the guy in an ill fit uniform is sort of part of the gag?..

This all sounds so terrible. I hope they find some middle ground between Countdown and the novels.

I’d rather they ignore both and do their own thing.

And this is coming from someone who loves the novels.

They shouldn’t be beholden to anything done in non-canon material.

But with Kurtzman, there will probably be more references to the comic then anything.

Things I want for the backstory
1) Romulus blowing up
2) Data still being dead
3) Lieutenant (jg) Harry Kim sweeping a floor at Star fleet acadamy
4) Data definitely being dead
5) A season long buildup to Picard meeting an old friend, and then finally being introduced to someone from either the Stargazer, or from his life post-nemesis.
6) Did I mention Data?

I wonder if the ill fit is intentional to visually highlight the age difference between Picard and the cadet (i.e. the cadet is so young he barely fits in his uniform) By making it fit so loose he looked like he was “wearing his dad’s clothes”.

I must have watched a different version of season 1. They look tight and uncomfortable to me.

Did you ever get sick of the jumpsuit on "Star Trek"?

Patrick Stewart: Sick of it? I came to loathe it. We actually got rid of it after the second season thanks to my chiropractor, who said if they don't take you out of that costume we are going to slap a lawsuit on Paramount for the lasting damage done to your spine.

How does a jumpsuit damage your spine?

PS: They were made from Lycra and one size too small. The producers wanted to have a smooth, unwrinkled look. It put a terrible amount of strain on the shoulders, neck and back.

With PS in charge there's no way they'll try that one again.

All these last pages remind me again HOW BAD an idea it is to include the Hobus supernova as "canon" in the "prime" timeline...

Like, the time we saw it, was in friggin' reboot, as a vision, about a future that didn't even happen in this reboot.

I get EVERYONE that is confused by this weird thing suddenly being treated as "actually have happened", instead of "plot device of a reboot"

ALso, it was probably the most scientific stupid thing of the entire Kelvin movies ("a supernova, threating to destroy the galaxy"), and really only works by the universe-rules of Kelvin-Trek.

The supernova propagated through subspace at warp speeds through some technobabble science reason according to the side material.

I've seen worse science in the other Prime Universe stories.

It's been treated as happened in the Prime Universe by CBS since ST 2009 came out. It didn't just come out of nowhere.

For one Star Trek Online was forced by CBS (not Paramount) to acknowledge the event as happening in Prime back when they were developing the game in '09.

It just occurred to me. Maybe Picard in the pic is at a future version of a civil war reenactment or Star Trek convention. Everyone is really in character playing "Starfleet" from what their parents have told them it was like back in the day. Yet despite this they can't even tell when they got a true legend from back in the day among them.
