Hopefully there will be a nice diorama of Bryan Fuller's ulcer collection as a reminder of his contribution.

Do you mean private "Discovery" viewing booths?

Or maybe it's just that with many of the things going on these days, getting to a hopeful future seems more like a *fight*?

"Explore The Future" sounds more like Season 3. They literally spent most of Season 2 fighting for their Future. Even the red signals were Michael racing against the clock to open the portal to 32nd Century, during the big space battle.

what show are you remembering where Starfleet went around unarmed like NASA exploring things all day and there was no conflict in the plot or threat from internal and external aggressors. It sounds like a boring show but definitely a completely different take on Star Trek from anything I have seen over the past four + decades I've been watching. Do tell.

It was called "Star Trek". Had a bunch of spin-offs as well. It's a bit older, you but if you like "Discovery", you should check it out, you might like it!

Though they were more inspired by the age of exploration - they weren't exactly unarmed, but had a policy of "not shooting first". Not too similar to DIS season 2 actually! You might really like it as well!

The Klingons shot first in Discovery. Burnham killed Tkuvma and tactically that was a mistake, but it was a combat scenario and I can't imagine anyone that would have claimed it wasn't a justified shot fired in anger. Klingons shot first at Corvan and the attack on the Glenn, etc.

Star Trek , especially TOS, abounds in conflict. Internal, external, what have you. Exploration is almost never without a price to be paid. That's the point of the show. Otherwise it would be Lackadaisically Going Where Anyone Could Have Gone Before. There are two different cold wars going on at once in TOS, similarly in TNG, not counting outright warfare at times. DS9, hot war. Voyager doesn't seem to even have time to have its phasers cool down, and Enterprise begins with a farmer shooting a Klingon in his stinky boots.

Even a "classic" Gene Vision-o-Rama like TMP has hundreds of people being killed by V'ger and never brought back to life.

I can only assume you must have skipped most five decades worth of episodes.

"How I met your mother" has conflict every episode. That's just the nature of storytelling. You still wouldn't describe it as "The fight for the future of your mother".

I would describe Star Trek as a fight for the future. at its heart Star Trek is optomistic, but its also a post-holocaust tale. A civilization outrunning its worst tendencies by expansion and discovery.

took 100-something photos at the exhibit on saturday, nothing groundbreaking. was most interested in the props and costumes so here are a couple of shots of my favorite things there:

to be honest, it was just alright. frankly, a little sterile. this was less for the fans than the entertainment industry folks in LA.

other than the concept art (which is sure to appear in some eaglemoss booklet or other art book down the line), there was nothing new here. the costumes and props are surprisingly detailed in person where a lot of movie and TV stuff feels made to only look good on screen, this stuff holds up in person. but it wasn't revelatory. the VR experiences were lacking, they were just 360' photos of sets we already know well.

there were monitors displaying VFX breakdowns from each episode and those were interesting, but again, i expect to see those outside of the exhibit real soon (btw i stared closely at the turbolift funhouse breakdown and still could make out no discernible relationship to the structure of discovery).

so i wouldn't say you missed much that you can't see in the many photos that have shown up online.
