News Daniel Craig signs up for Bond 25, Christopher Nolan in talks to direct

He doesn't really need to make any more movies for the rest of his life though does he? He's made an incredible amount of money out of being Bond and could probably quite easily retire, or be incredibly picky about projects going forward and just do Indy films for the rest of his career. Look at Brosnan, he made a ridiculous amount of other stuff while he was Bond, parlayed the part into setting up his own production company etc. Obviously Craig has done other films (but the number of films has lessened in inverse proportion to how much he's been paid to be Bond) and some theatre work but you know I sometimes wonder if he even actually enjoys acting? Or maybe he's just being a good husband/father and letting Rachel get on with making films (and she's been very busy).

I know Bond is a lot of effort but it also isn't unique in that respect.

I do think they're stymied as to where to take Bond from here. I do think they need to lighten the franchise a little. Not saying they need to go back to double-entendres, hollowed out volcanos and raised eyebrows, but they need to re-inject the fun into Bond. Someone like Cavill could do that, maybe find some halfway ground between Brosnan and Craig.

 

For me, Cavill is too stiff. I thought Men from UNCLE would be a good audition for him, playing a Bond-like character in Napoleon Solo and I didn't buy it. He had the look, but didn't have much charm. I thought he worked better as August Walker in Mission Impossible: Fallout, where the performance was based more on physicality than personality IMO. That being said, I thought he was game more for Fallout and if the writing had been there we could've gotten more from that character.

I've long wanted to see Michael Fassbender as Bond, though I know that's not going to happen. I thought his Bondesque-Magneto in X-Men: First Class was pretty cool. But I see him being more like Craig's Bond.

I would like to see Richard Madden at least be under consideration. I thought he did a very good job in the miniseries Bodyguard. Granted, that role also reminded me of Craig's take on Bond, yet, I think Madden could pull off being a younger, more experienced, and perhaps even more tortured Bond than even Craig did.

 

I think the tortured Bond's been done to death now. I'd love Fassbender to do it (assuming he could maintain his accent for the whole film ) in fact he's been my first choice for some time. He was fantastic in First Class.

I still think John Boyega would make a great Bond, but realistically he needs to be the Bond after next.

 

I agree. I think the whole point of Bond is that you want to be him. It's what separates him from other action heroes, who tend to have abilities you want rather than lives you want. Casino Royale really nailed that aspect of the character. Bond was literally tortured in that movie, and yet he still managed to shrug it off and make jokes. Now that's male fantasy time! I think the following movies took the 'tortured' direction without remembering that Bond still needed to be cool.

Dislike the idea of Cavill. He's just a little too typically good looking. There's something kinda insipid about his looks.

 

I get the sense from Cavill's performances that he just isn't a deep thinker. I can't quite put my finger on it--it's just how he carries himself. When you see, for instance, Robert Downey Jr., you always sense that there are a lot of gears moving in his head. I just don't get that with Cavill. What you see is what you get, nothing more. And that limits his range as an actor. He worked well as a brute in Mission Impossible but if the tables were turned he wouldn't have been able to play Tom Cruise's role.

 

I think Alexander Siddig would be a great Bond.

 

Ten to fifteen years ago, maybe, but at 53, I'm afraid he's a bit too old now. Still want him to be one of the next few regenerations of the Doctor, though.

 

Yeah, I've been wanting him as The Doctor since Tennant left. Seems unlikely at this point, but I agree it's more likely than James Bond, unfortunately.

Yeah, sure. But that episode is a quarter of a century old. As cool as it might have been, he's simply out of the suitable age range.

 

I've always felt the same. New Bond should be handsome, but not strikingly handsome. More cultured, urbane, and genuinely witty. Problem is, while that kind of character might make for some great movies, I doubt it would draw many people to the box office. That's going to be the issue with their post-Craig Bond.

 

Daniel Craig has a powerful presence as Bond and he was the best Bond, physically, since Connery. I thought Casino Royale and Skyfall especially were decent movies. My issue with him is that he mumbles his delivery. He reminds me of the snotty middle aged bodybuilder at the gym who gets annoyed when you try to talk to him during his workout.

My favorite Bond was Roger Moore in For Your Eyes when he tried to be more serious.

Well not uncommon for a leading man to injure himself, DC has done so before and look at Cruise breaking his ankle filming the last Mission Impossible film, that said it feels like this film's terribly cursed in some way sometimes!

Yet Naomi Harris is telling people she thinks he'll do another one! If, and it's a huge if, he does then I think all involved have to commit to a way faster turnaround or on current timings he'll be 57/58 by the time it comes out!

 

Yeah, it has a plodding drawn out plot that needed some trimming, but it is a interesting movie that tries to go back to the serious route the Connery movies had, although Moore did not really want Bond to become too ruthless, did he not have a issue with the kicking of the car off the cliff scene if i remember correctly.

 

Yes Rog wasn't overly keen on that moment (which is a shame as it's great)

I often wonder how he felt about force feeding a guy poisoned heroin at the start of The Wild Geese...

According MI6, the title was going to be A Reason to Die until April 24 when it was deemed "not Bond enough." A shame because I think that's a great title for Craig's swansong and I disagree that it's not Bond enough.

 

That title is awesome and is perfectly "Bond enough." Stupid Studio Suits.
