This is why Voyager is not a good show really. And now it's ok if Discovery does this?

I hate Voyager, so no that doesn't apply to me. I even got into arguments with my college roommate who liked Voyager almost 2 decades ago about it. You should be more careful with that post.

I don't know any Voyager critics, literally not a single one, who feels it's "water under the bridge" at all. Who are you talking about? Please post an example. Although I suppose the winky face could mean it's just a joke. :P

I guess I'm a little sensitive since Voyager is my least favorite show. I like the cast and all, but the writing needed work to put it mildly.

I was more critical of Voyager when it was on. I equated the quality of the episodes to New England weather. You never knew what you'd get each week. But, of what I didn't like, I do consider it "water under the bridge" because I can skip those episodes. I have no need to watch "Disease", for instance, ever again. If you don't remember what that episode was about, don't ask. You're better off not remembering. But for all the flak VOY got, it also put out episodes like "Deathwish", "Meld", "Tuvix", "Distant Origin", "Mortal Coil", "Latent Image", "The Voyager Conspiracy", "Critical Care", and "Lineage", whose topics they covered and how they explored them carry enough weight that I'd put them up against any episode of TOS, TNG, or DS9.

Then there's the age thing. As a teenager, I was simply going to be harsher on things that I thought sucked than I am at the end of my 30s. Some get more bitter with age while others, like myself, just grow out of it. Everything you like isn't "The Best!!!!" and everything you don't like isn't "The Worst!!!!!" But, from what I've seen online, too many people just seem to stay in that mentality.

15-20 years ago, I was completely of the mindset that Star Trek had turned to shit. Now, VOY is something that I think is okay, overall, and ENT just something not to my tastes.

Why? It's a joke about a TV show that ended 20 years ago (I feel old). I don't like VOY either, am pretty critical, but not one of those criticisms ends with "And that's how VOY ruined Star Trek" or "VOY isn't Star Trek." Compare that to DSC criticisms which have pretty much convinced me that DSC (somehow) single handedly ruined continuity and canon all in two seasons. That's some impressive work.

Yes, winky face means joke.

Voyager is terrible and it did not bear out its own premise. This isn't a defensive of VOY at all.

The ironic thing is that the closest resemblance in Trek to Discovery's situation next season will be Voyager...

While there are some saying that Discovery destroyed Star Trek, I don't feel the numbers bear this out. Keep in mind Voyager could barely hold up the UPN network. Discovery is singlehandedly keeping CBS All Access afloat, and people are literally paying monthly fees just to watch it, unthinkable in Voyager's day.

Don't worry, Bob Picardo will be back as the Doctor wreaking revenge against organics and Discovery will get caught in the crossfire.
Wouldn't the 32nd century be about the time his backup copy is supposed to get back home? Depending on his route and Discovery's exact position he might just cross paths with them. I'm about 98% percent sure this has already been asked like 800 times

Seeing the crew of Discovery restoring the Federation or a version of it aka Andromeda would be cool to see.

Burnham: In order to ensure the security and continuing stability, the V'draysh will be reorganized into the first Galactic Empire!!!!

Oh, sorry, wrong Star franchise...
"The attempt on my life the shower of sparks flying in my face as I went through time has left me scarred and deformed, but I assure you my resolve has never been stronger!"

Horta for President! :)

Yeah, unless they pull something weird out of the box, after calypso, and them saying the Vdrash (or whatever) was the federation.. it seems to be the Andromeda route.. which is okay, every civilization comes and goes, a 1000 year reich.. err.. federation probably is to much to ask for..
I've read plenty of Star Trek books where they explored past civilizations, I mean ones from a million or 100,000's of years ago.. and they all failed and either accended or war exterminated them etc.. There's no "ancient race" like the Vorlons in star Trek. Look at Babylon 5, the Minbari have been going since the last war a 1000 years ago, and they have more or less maintained the status quo, but have forgoten a lot of stuff from that era, and even hold Valen, who was just another man, in high reguard, maybe a prophet or some thing.

what about this.. they loose Earth, something happens, Borg destroy it, or somethinging bad and they loose it.. maybe explaines why they look for the "oldies" like calpso said :)

I say the federation was invaded an mostly taken over, probably not the Borg or the Dominion, but a new race (maybe from another galaxy) . Discovery joins up with a resistance group to try to drive these aggressors out. Perhaps they are in search of special device that would get rid of the invaders (I know, a bit to Stargate'ish) .

I agree with someone above that they have to do something to limit the technical advances that would seem almost magic like. Fall of the Federation, apocalypse or invasion and dissemination would be the way to go.

I can't believe how stupid I've been to not notice that "V'draysh" could completely be a corruption of the word "Federation," a la "V'ger."

Federation still around it is.

I have a feeling between this and the Picard show, the Federation is about to become a lot more corrupt... Patrick Stewart has been very outspoken politically and I just find it hard to believe that's not going to leak into his show somehow, what with Picard already basically confirmed to not be in Starfleet anymore.

I hope they don't go for this--alien invasions and blaming others has been used too much. And fear of the "other" is unfortunately exploited by bad people in reality to discriminate.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the theme where the Federation basically destroys itself. It's the plot most relevant to our times, as we are facing threats from climate change, broken governmental institutions, etc.

We already have strong circumstantial evidence from Short Treks that the Federation is the V'Draysh, and that they're not very nice.
