Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel - First Time Viewer

Not to mention Wesley’s evolution.

In the episode where Joyce tries to organize the town to stand up to the weirdness, I was thinking “If she weren’t being magically manipulated to murder all their kids she’d have a damn point”.

Buffy is a great show of course but you have to suspend disbelief that one extremely strong teenager with a pointy piece of wood is more effective than modern military technology and the American military couldn’t wipe out all vampires in a few committed weeks.

That's how I tend to be. Unless it's a sitcom I might go with 2 or if I am in the mood. I'm not big on binge watching so much as bulk watching. Sometimes I might watch a episode and then watch something else and then go back for a new episode of the show before that so I can watch maybe several episodes of a season in a day but rarely back to back.

Jason

Currently for me it’s The Office, Voyager, Silicon Valley, Stargate SG1, Orange Is The New Black and Lost.

Only difference is I’ll stay with one for maybe 1-2 hours before switching.

My list of old shows would be this

1 Mission Impossible from the 60's. mid season 1 and watching for the first time Fun but kind of repetive. Worst show I can think of to binge watch.

2 Stargate Last episode was "30" days" and so near the end of season 3. Seen this show many times I just like rewatching it alot.

3 Marvelous Ms Maisel=Not a old show but since I am kind of getting late to season 2 I am counting it. First time. Love the show.

4 Green Acres=Not sure why but I hadn't seen it since I was a kid so I know watch it. again maybe for the first time since the 80's. Mid season 1

5 Highlander=Wan't into it back in the 90's but giving it a chance. Not quite as good as I hoped and boy I am not sure about Adrain Paul's acting ability but I will stick with it. Early season 1

6 The Sarah Jane Adventues=Watching for first time. Soon will start season 2 . It's okay but I don't see me getting into after I ma done like Doctor Who.

7 Will and Grace=Watching for first time. Middle of season 2. Kind of fun but very sitcomly. so very 90's. Still I like it. Boy do these characters have snark though.

8 X-Files=Seen it many times. Love it. About to start season 6 after i watch the first movie again.

9 NYPD Blue=I liked the show back in the day so I thought I would try it out again. It's pretty good still. In the middle of season 1 so I am still in Caruso era.

10 The Mick=Newer show I didn't really watch but giving it a try. Pretty fun. Basically a show about what would happen if Dee from "It's Always Sunny in Philedilpha" had to baby sit some rich kids but it works for me.

11 Fraser=Middle season 1. Seen it before but for some reason ever episode feels new so I am not sure if I have seen season 1 before or if I just forgot much of the episodes.

12 Crazy Ex Girlfriend" About to start season 3. Really enjoy it. Especially the musical numbers. Nince timing with it ending while I had already started to watch awhile back.

13 West Wing=Seen it also. Another old show I wanted to visit and it's nice to see normal politics even if it's just fiction. Very early season 1

14 Portlandia=Super love this show. It's becoming a all-time favorite. Near the end of season 2.

15 Random Star Trek episodes. Waiting till I get "Enterprise" on Blu Ray before doing a proper marathon but still watch random episodes of all the shows right now.

This doesn't even include the weekly stuff I watch like Arrowverse shows,Black-ish etc.

I need to find more new shows. All my favorite shows except for Westworld, B99, Discovery and Stranger Things are either in their last season or have only one left for sure.

Have you tired the new "Lost in Space?" It's lots of fun and beautiful to look at. Also people keep saying "Ozark" is great but I haven't tried it yet.

I'm watching Prophecy Girl now, and I think this is Sarah Michelle Geller's best acting so far. The scene where she finds out her fate is kind of heart wrenching, and then the scene with her and her mother and now the scene with Willow and Buffy. I'm 24 minutes into this episode and it's so emotional already.

I don't really see where it's that much of an issue as long as they're on the same streaming service, but then again I very rarely watch more than one episode of a show at a time, so I might just be weird. I usually watch a handful of shows at a time, just go from one to the next in a rotation. Right now I'm working on Farscape, Legacies, and Lucifer.

I've found I'm the opposite. I started Voyager for a rewatch this year and then I got side tracked with stuff like B99, Buffy, and various sports (Not to mention real life stuff) and haven't gone back to it since. I also probably won't see a show all night long either, maybe 2 or 3 episodes on a good night.

Prophecy Girl is, in my opinion, the best episode of the first season.

Yes it was, but Buffy died, was revived and got stronger? I hope the next episode explains that one.

Other than that, yeah Prophecy Girl was a fantastic episode. It did what a finale is supposed to do, culminate the season and have a really cool climax. I have to say I wasn't entirely a fan of Xander though. Since when was he interested in Buffy. I thought it was Willow.

Xander had a crush on "Buffy" basically all during season 1. I would even say unrequited crush even longer.

Nope. Willow wants Xander and he doesn't reciprocate; Xander wants Buffy and she doesn't reciprocate. Think back to the cringeworthy bracelet scene in "The Witch," the stuff in "The Pack," etc.

And yes, "Prophecy Girl" is a great episode, especially that scene in the library where Buffy overhears them talking about her death ... and of course the Title Theme Drop toward the end. A great badass Buffy moment.

Yep, and this exchange might have made me love Buffy more:

"You're dead!"
"I may be dead, but I'm still pretty. Which is more than I can say for you."

Like I said, this was Geller's coming out episode as an actress I think.

As for Xander, ok. Thanks for clarifying.

Also...

“You have fruit-punch mouth.”

“We saved the world. I say we party.”

“By the way I like your dress.” “Yeah yeah, it’s a big hit with everyone.”

I started season 2 tonight, and I have to say there is a new confidence in the show that made it a whole lot more energetic. I really hate sometimes when a premiere comes back with less intensity than the finale (And it happens in a lot of shows) but this premiere kept that intensity up. I really hope they explain the whole Buffy Dies but doesn't thing because right now the show is treating that as common knowledge and as someone who hasn't seen the movie in almost 25 years, it isn't common knowledge. Still, these last two episodes has made it seem like something clicked in Geller's performance as Buffy because you wouldn't recognize her from the first episode. Much like the show, there is a new confidence in her performance that I'm starting to see why so many people look up to her. I'm not ready to put her in the Aeryn Sun/Ellen Ripley camp yet, but her star is rising.

By the way, the standard in which I set female heroines (And I mean this in the most complimentary way possible) is Aeryn Sun from Farscape, and Ellen Ripley from Aliens. To say Geller is getting close to that level is saying a lot.

One of the best things about Buffy is that few major plot points are dropped between seasons. The story builds layers and depth as it moves along.

I am curious what you think about Angel. I think you might like him even more when you finally get to his own show in "Angel" but I will say he is at his best in season 2 but I won't say why because of spoilers.

I liked his specific episode but right now he’s kind of the heartthrob for Buffy. We got his backstory and his scenes with Giles were good but I would like to know more about “him”. Basically I hope he becomes more than just a vampire with a soul in a love triangle with Buffy and Xander.

There are some consequences to Buffy's death that will show up down the line, but I'm really not sure what needs to be explained about the death itself?

The master drained the energy he needed to escape then left her to drown. Xander performed CPR. It was a totally non-supernatural resurrection, no weird effects on Buffy herself whatsoever. But it was enough to fully fulfill the prophecy - the Slayer met the Master and died - and her coming back and getting a second chance was enough to throw him off his game and give her the confidence she didn't have when her death was still assured by unbreakable prophecy.

I just watched the first three episodes of Sabrina on Netflix. I'll visit the thread on the series later, but for the original poster of this thread it seems that Sabrina embodies many of the same themes that Buffy does.
