No. Clearly you missed all the episodes where characters can understand and use alien computer systems without even understanding the written language.

This always cracks me up. It's always "Gonna take me a sec to figure out how this works... [5 seconds later] cool! totally hacked it. good to go"

I mean, I couldn't use a cash register at a CVS without an employee ID, but here we are running alien spaceships.

I believe that the Original Seven Signals seen by Spock and then Star Fleet, is part of the Faith aspect of story.
(but it got lost by the wayside when the changes in staffing took place)

Somehow and in someway, it was meant to convey that the "Universe" projected the signals for all to see as an advanced warning of what was to come..

It's probably not logical at all, but then again having Faith very rarely is.

If you accept that the universe as a whole is a living breathing thing that makes perfect sense. I kind of like this explanation.

I know right? I guess it helps that every alien race decided to use okudagrams for their user interfaces.

Okudagrams ARE cheaper. All you need is a background with a light source and boom: instant alien computer interface.

Anyone who thinks it's feasible should try to use a Korean keyboard and see how long it takes him to figure out anything. When we see Archer learn how to use an alien ship all by himself in thirty seconds top, we know it's total bullshit.

I always figured that their ability to work alien computer systems was part of the universal translator, although there have been circumstances where they've managed it when they seemingly don't have those on them.

There's only so much a device like that can do unless it's also tapping into the users optic nerves and providing visual translation. If it's doing that that's invasive tech.

What there isn't an I HATE DISCO button on the CBSAA site which allows you not only to cancel your subscription, but ensure the series to doesn't get another season by pressing on it repeatedly and angrily? That would explain certain deep held beliefs to me. I can't check myself, as I don't live in the US so can't subscribe.
Saaaaame! This whole "omgcancel" attitude is just so uncalled for! Nothing I can relate to. Don't like, don't watch. Criticise. I don't care. But actively wishing for something to fail is utterly incomprehensible.

I'm just going to repeat myself for fear of ridicule
Control is not dead
It has went to the future in the remnants of a human carcass, Leland
And in the invasive technology that spilled from his carcass in the Spore Chamber
Also, I believe that Georgiou, after "neutralising" Leland, secretly fucked off in an escape pod, so as not to be imprisoned in the future
She is in hiding, away from the tentacles of Starfleet, and she'll return, as duplicitous and evil as ever.
For Pike, Spock et al, simply to believe a shady Starfleet interrogator that all was well regarding Control, was also a bit of a leap of faith.
Trouble awaits.

Picard: Geordi, can you make sense of these alien controls?
Geordi: I think so, Captain; I ran them through the universal translator. This one makes walls fall. This one has something to do with opening arms wide.

I find it hilarious that they basically rendered the last two seasons of STD absolutely pointless in their last minute attempt a a retcon. All it took was a few words from Spock. :guffaw:
