Oh wow, so they screwed up that scene too then? Because I got the distinct impression that it would only be a small crew going with her into the future. Can't blame any writer switchovers on that one, that was just plain poorly executed.

When they show the entire main cast, and only the main cast, saying "we're staying with you", that's what you expect to get. If extras are coming along, you need to show extras. Simple as that.

So what you're telling me is that everyone else was off busy doing important things, EXCEPT for the main cast, who apparently had nothing more useful to do than stand there and smile at Michael? While everyone else was busy doing important stuff?

Effing hell! Get better at this shit, Discovery writers!!!

I would love to know when the plan "never think about Discovery again" became the official plan for the show. Was that the idea from episode 1? From the introduction of the Red Angel at the start of season 2? Or did it come into play midway through season 2?

If it was the idea from the very beginning of episode 1, that's unfortunate. Not that it was a horrendous idea or anything, but it really played into the hands of the haters.

If this were a better show, we would be able to understand the sacrifice these people are making. It's basically their entire life they are throwing away to help Burnham. That's a major major decision and the show didn't even take the time to really contemplate it. That's sad.

Honestly, the haters can bite me. I don’t see why anyone pays attention to “haters.”

Sure, that's the proper attitude to take with haters.

What I'm trying to point out is that if this was the plan from day 1, it's unfortunate because it kinda makes it look like the haters got their way.

They've been saying since Season 1 that it would line up eventually.

I always assumed the entire crew was going. They've made a big point this season of emphasising that a crew is a family and being in Starfleet is about making sacrifices for the greater good. Although it would have been nice to have a line like ' The whole crew is behind you' or something to that effect.

Go back and watch the scene again. They included some co-stars and extras as well as the credited regular main characters. Reno, Owo, Bryce, Detmer, and Rhys are not technically main cast, remember. Plus there was Nillson (new bridge member in-verse) and the big insect headed extra there. Perhaps they could have added a few more extras, but I hardly call it a screw up. It's there in the dialogue that more are staying behind with the ship.

And we're paying attention to those kind of folks because ... ... ... Why again?

I rather discuss the stories presented and how they fit in to Trek on the whole, rather than dwell on somebody else's hang-ups.

    But that's just me.

Possibly? But that’s the thing about being a hater: you can read anything into anything. So I suppose they could turn it that way for themselves, but the same thing that’s satisfying them is the thing that makes them lost and pointless.

I’m more interested by the new reality we’re in where a Star Trek series doesn’t run 7 years anymore. It’s not cancelled; it’s the design. Is this the new media age we’re in? Make a few years of something, then jump to the next four projects?

I guess Yeoman Colt is now a red spiky alien because 'it's 2019', 'there are better makeup techniques', and 'we have a modern audience'.
And did they have to change Spock's look so pointlessly (giant antihelix bulge on the ears, longer sideburns)...

If someone asked me if I wanted to go 1000 years into the future and I was someone serving ( read either with family on board or no family) I would do it without question. That tickles so many things in my mind I couldn't resist it. Yeah you leave things behind, but could you stay leaving behind the chance to see what is going on 1000 years in the future?

I guess for me that's so hard to think about. Seeing the future is cool, but leaving everything you know behind permanently I'm not sure if I can deal with that.

Good grief, are you serious? They are literally the only people we know!!!!

I suspect most people on this board would love to go into the future.

But the impression I got is that the idea with this trip was that they were going to go into the future and kind of just sit there and fade away, protecting the sphere data. I figured Michael's initial plan was to park the Discovery on a rock and then just sit there and let time takes it's course. Not exactly a fun trip that people would want to sign up for.

Of course, we know that's not what we'll see. The crew will have all sorts of fun adventures and whatnot.

I studied physics and am rather curious. No way I could pass that up if I was not the sole provider for my family. If you are living on a ship in space months from home what would you really be leaving behind? The ship is like having your job and your home be the same thing.

They are not main cast. That was my quibble. So we have a mix of regular main characters, guest star characters, recurring co-stars and at least one non-speaking extra at the corridor meeting. Could there have been a few more of the latter, sure. But this is explicitly covered in the dialogue: they weren't all able to be there. And Tilly also implied in dialogue that more people were gonna stay because that's who they are, a family.
