Would going beyond Picard and making Picard now a prequel show be better?

I don't have the issues other viewers do with prequels. I like Discovery in the 2250s and I'd keep it there if I had a vote.

What I don't like is Picard. So I don't want Discovery in the same time period, where the characters may intersect.

Yes, I know that's incredibly unpopular, but I always found Picard a frigid bore.

The whole war in season 1 hasn't happened. The work with pike and enterprise in season 2 doesn't happen. Everything discovery did for 2 seasons just didn't happen.

I wouldn't like that. It is posssible though.

Saru or new character is what I want.. though I was also never asked.

I just don't think they'd do that. Anything DSC learns in the future about what happened to the federation or the klingons now becomes canon unless you throw DSC into another galaxy or parallel universe. You know DSC would want to know what the state of starfleet and so forth is.

I wouldn't be surprised if something similar happened somewhere down the road, if CBS continues to support Trek to the degree it is right now.

I'd call the Discovery going into a time-warp hole and us not seeing where it comes out is more than a bit of a cliff-hanger.

Honestly, the finale was written in such a way you wonder if CBS was considering just canceling the show outright at some point. It had a certain finality to it if you only consider what's shown onscreen, and not offscreen comments.

When the season was initially story boarded pre production, it hadn't been renewed for a third season, so it probably made sense to leave open the possibility that this was to be the end.

There are certainly plenty out there fantasizing just that and more. They'll have their months of happy thoughts before the Season 3 starts production and their tiny hearts are crushed yet again.

You've identified the wrinkle in their celebration. I assume at some point they'll realize that it's in fact Pike and the Enterprise that are going to be outside of the show's main narrative now...
