Captain Pike spin off petition

Until his encounter on Boreth, I didn't see Pike as a particularly compelling character. I found him pretty bland to be honest. His only flaw was feeling shame for being left out of the Klingon War. That was it. I did like his scenes in If Memory Serves, because he got to have more layers. We saw how Vina still impacted his life. But still, for me, there's nothing that special about the character. He's a decent Starfleet captain, who likes to manage his crew by committee more than as a boss. He's a straight shooter who values honesty, integrity, duty and so on. But....what makes him unique to other captains? What does he bring to the table as a regular character besides stability? Basically he was what I'd call a text book Starfleet captain and an obvious contrast to Lorca's more unorthodox approach (since he was an MU villain). I really didn't see the love others were feeling for the character. Peck's Spock I could understand because he's taking an iconic character and infusing something new and yet showing glimpses of the man we would come to love.

But Mount is a superb actor. He elevates the material he's working with. His scenes on Boreth (and afterwards) made me sit up and take notice. I'm still skeptical that I'd be that excited by a run of the mill "more traditional" show starring Pike, Spock and Number One, but I'm willing to give it a shot if it does come to fruition.

We watched Anson every week on Hell on Wheels and thought he was handsome with the hair and the stare and a good actor as well. HoW wavered at times but Anson kept the show afloat. When we heard he was cast for Discovery, we couldn't wait to see how he'd shine in such an iconic role. So we are very pleased with him and before I sign the petition shouldn't we wait to see what CBS has planned? CBS job is to make money for the stockholders and if the brass cant see what is so clear to all of us, of course I'll sign! Pike and the adventures of his crew on the Enterprise are the main reason we watch! Why would CBS walk away from it? If they do, then something is wrong. They'd plan a Piccard and a S31 but shrug off a Pike? I don't believe that.

So who is going to play Doctor Boyce?
Have him retire. Replace him with Culber.

I mean, you don't really need Pitcairn either. Jose Tyler can stick around if you can get Cameron Monaghan, but he doesn't really need to appear either.

Agreed, if Culber ends up on the Enterprise at the end of tonight's episode, he's the obvious character who can replace Boyce as CMO.

The petition has almost 18000 signatures and is still growing. I read and hear everywhere, persons that would like to see a show like this, but no word from CBS yet.
Mount also expressed interest and declared to be open to a Pike show: https://trekmovie.com/2019/04/17/an...reative-conversations-to-return-to-star-trek/
The man talks well without the Pike boots too, read the interview. At distance, looks to be a sympathetic person. He has the charisma to lead a show like this.
Let´s wait that CBS sign the petition too,:lol::lol:

When we first saw him in THE CAGE he was burned out and clearly suffering from the events on Rigel VII. But, once it was over, it seemed to me that Pike was starting to get a second wind. So by the time we meet up with him on Discovery, he's rekindled his love for the captaincy. I think Pike's mood from the events of Rigel VII just resulted in him having a rough couple of days.

I really have to hand it to Mount for his performance. Hunter may have originated the character, but it was Mount who really injected life into Captain Pike. He had very little to go on, so the character was practically a clean slate.
Could not agree more with you

Maybe it will become more clear after tonight's Discovery episode why a Pike spin-off hasn't been announced. I personally think it's because they're trying to keep the fate of the Enterprise and Spock's situation secret for the more non-Trekkie audience. Or maybe they don't want to trump Discovery's press by announcing a Pike show and are waiting for the season to finish.

There is that leaked photo of Peck in his TOS getup with no beard. Was this photo taken before they decided to go with scruffy Spock? Or is it a promo photo that would be part of a press release about a Pike show? It remains to be seen...

Or maybe they just haven't been interested in a Pike spin-off until now (hopefully).

I don't think this happens in the next couple of years, really, and beyond that the moment will likely have passed. They have a pretty full slate - they don't even start shooting Section 31 until they're done with season three of STD.

The shooting Section 31 after Discovery season 3 may be because of story reasons though. Yeoh is going to be in season 3 of Discovery.

And there's the fact that CBS is building a big new soundstage in Mississauga (outside Toronto) which is supposed to be complete this spring. They should have enough room to shoot all Trek related things (except for the Picard show which is in LA). I bet Discovery will keep shooting at Pinewood and all other Trek shows will move over to the new CBS soundstage in Mississauga

That last 7 to 8 minutes of the season 2 finale really did feel like backdoor pilot to a Pike series. If they do a Pike series, I hope the pilot incorporates scenes from it to give people a sense of backstory.

For what it's worth, from this interview with Kurtzman:

You not only brought in Spock this season, but also Anson Mount, who garnered a lot of critical praise and even a fan petition to get a Pike spin-off. Is there a chance of that happening?

The fans have been heard. Anything is possible in the world of Trek. I would love to bring back that crew more than anything. It was a huge risk for us. One of the most gratifying things is to see how deeply the fans have embraced Pike, Spock, Number One, and the Enterprise. The idea of getting to tell more stories with them would be a delight for all of us.

18000 is a good number, and I have signed as well. I started a petition for CBS to have a live Star Trek channel on CBS All Access. I don't know the forum rules about posting something I made in a thread, but hey, now that it exists, it's out of my hands now!

That scene really does come off as absurd if they don't plan to use it as a springboard for something else.

"Here's a detailed fly-around of a set and close-ups of various characters... who you will never see again. While the Star Trek leitmotif plays."

I've read Kurtzman's reasoning as to why we end on the Enterprise rather than on the ship and crew we're actually going to be following, but that ending is just an unbelievable tease if it ultimately doesn't lead to anything else.

Although I doubt a Pike-series is a given, I'm sure there have been talks already and something will eventually happen. Be it a mini-series, TV movie or full blown series. It might take a while though...
