Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker - Teaser Trailer

The problem with these new Star Wars movies it struggles to find its own voice; seems the people in charge don't have any faith in these new characters where they have to regurgitate whatever is left from the original trilogy. Lando's back and possibly Palpatine, Disney has tried to find that middle ground to bring old fans and new together, maybe this last film will close the book so I don't have to go back to this again. Bring new characters and ideas which would be fresh but has a hint of the old stuff.

Great to hear Palpy’s chuckle!

I’m picking that section of the Death Star II is sitting half submerged in an ocean on the planet Endor (not the forest moon as seen in ROTJ). The concept behind this comes from the development stage of TFAs, and associated art can be found in The Art Of book.[spoiler/]
I thought Endor was the name of the moon, i.e. "the forest moon of Endor" was just a fancy way of introducing it. Why would moon (presumable Earth-sized) be the same size as its neighboring planet? They both seem to have the same surface gravity...

I don't track with this at all. the new trailer focused almost entirely on the new characters, emphasizing them being in the middle of the action, aside from Lando and Chewie.

I think they have their own voice already and this film will cap it off quite strongly.

That desert scene at the beginning that they filmed in Jordan, is that the same area where the premier Episode of Discovery filmed at?

Btw. learning that Discovery went to the Middle East to film, answered a question I had asking where the hell the budget went in Season 1.

I would rather not see Palpatine return in any form, as it would pretty much make Vader's ROTJ attack lose half of its meaning (yes, part of it was Vader's redemption/balancing the Force, but killing the evil behind it all was as much an important part).
Given that seven and eight pissed all over six's ending anyway, I don't think any of that matters at this point.

As for me, I might see nine at some point in the future when it shows up in Walmart's $3.00 bin, but I was so disapointed by seven and eight that I just don't care about the episodes anymore.

That being said, the "A Star Wars Story" films were both halfway decent, and I wouldn't mind seeing more of those. I'd have been happier if Lucasfilm and Disney had just stuck to making those and let "The Skywalker Saga" end with six.

It just surprises me at how entrenched each side has become...

I'm not. As a world culture, we've become so tribalistic, its easy to believe that as it comes to our views on entertainment, its handled exactly the same way. Thanks, internet, for your echo chamber mentality.

As for the Emperor. Lucas's original plan was to have the Emperor show up in episode 9 (before that got put into 6)).
I'd be careful throwing around words like "original" when it comes to Lucas's plans. They were always in flux right up until he sold the thing to Disney and whether it was going to be a six, nine or twelve movie saga changed pretty much from one interview to the next.
I mean "originally" the Emperor would have been right there in the first movie and an entirely different character. "Originally" the whole thing was just going to be a licensed 'Flash Gordon' adaptation.

Like I said in another thread, I loved TFA, really enjoy TLJ and the trailer for Episode IX has me very hyped. I can't wait to see it.

Given that this appears to be a thread about the trailer, is it too much to ask for spoiler tags for things that aren't covered in the trailer?

Ian McDiarmid was the shining star of the prequels, portraying a gentle politician whose true cackling colors emerge from his fingers at the right time to seize absolute power. He was a joy to watch then, and will be again. I can wait until year's end because the gap can be easily filled by videos of his reciting his lines Shakespeare-style. Bliss!

Well one of them, Ewan McGregor wasn't too bad either.
