He didn't get paid? O_oPlus the whole Michael/Spock relationship and the references to the Enterprise and Pike. David Mack got a bit shafted by the change in showrunners.

I hope so! But it was supposed to be the official canon prequel to Discovery. That lasted less than a season. It was obviously not originally intended that the Enterprise and Spock would be part of the series so soon.He didn't get paid? O_o
I would imagine that such decisions occur more often than not with Trek authors.I hope so! But it was supposed to be the official canon prequel to Discovery. That lasted less than a season. It was obviously not originally intended that the Enterprise and Spock would be part of the series so soon.
Sure, she could, but that is unlikely. The whole Pike series is conjecture anyway, and her being a regular on that is part of that conjecture.
Best news I could have regarding the books. Yes, I know it is an unpopular opinion, but the Vong were not something I found even remotely enjoyable.Forget about any Vong books though.
Me neither. Plus killing Chewie killed any chance the EU could ever be acknowledged in the future films (although to be fair they never found a body).Best news I could have regarding the books. Yes, I know it is an unpopular opinion, but the Vong were not something I found even remotely enjoyable.
If there's no Pike standalone then they built a whole Enterprise bridge just for the Discovery finale. Although maybe it's actually a redress of another set...?Sure, she could, but that is unlikely. Ok, so I thought on this a bit more. And, her going by Number One is not as a stretch as we might think at first blush. McCoy went by Bones for the longest time, as well as Doctor. In ranked services it isn't unusual to go by their rank. I have friends who don't even go by their proper name at all. One goes by a name that is completely unconnected to his legal name.Okay. I really don't expect anyone to do this, but as intellectual exercise it would be really interesting to see someone to go through couple of seasons worth of TNG scripts and alter them so that Will Riker's name is never mentioned. I am really doubtful it could be done without it coming across as incredibly jarring.
I think the fact that they extensively redesigned the Enterprise and the bridge supports the idea that there will be a spin-off. If it was just a brief easter egg appearance for the fans, then they might have left the things mostly as they were in TOS like was did in such homage episodes in other series. That it might look dated wouldn't really matter for a brief appearance which whole purpose was to make a call back to TOS anyway, but if you plan to use the ship and sets for an entire series then that's another matter. If there's no Pike standalone then they built a whole Enterprise bridge just for the Discovery finale.
If they combine crews, her getting killed solves what to do with having two first officers. Although, i guess she could get promoted to captaining her own ship.Whose to say she ends up as a regular character on a potential continuing series? She could well get killed in one of the next two episodes of Discovery (or a Pike pilot) as a way to shock viewers, which would make the whole discussion moot.
Wasn't Control from one of his books? I suppose they made it up to him if so...David Mack got a bit shafted by the change in showrunners.
I don't know where that's from. That episode doesn't exist.Et Voila! One chef.

I really still don't think it could work. Now, it indeed would be possible to avoid mentioning the name most of the time, but there would be situations where it just doesn't work. For example scenes where the Captain introduces himself and their landing party/senior staff to the aliens of the week, delegates etc are really common. It would be weird if everyone else is introduced by name, except one person. Also, how would she introduce herself?Ok, so I thought on this a bit more. So, it might not be as difficult or unusual as we think.

Nope nope nah, doesn't exist. It's all a fake hologram. They proved in Discovery that holograms can be faked. So its all fake. Doesn't exist. Never happened.... Rrrrr....But....there's pictures....and everything![]()

So this is what the Doctor from Voyager has to put up with. No wonder his holo-brothers were enslaved in mines and he was fighting to free them. No, they proved that people can be faked. The holograms are REAL and they're coming for us!
Did we ever get Uhura's first name on air/film prior to the Abrams films?
There had been hopes that this time would be different.I would imagine that such decisions occur more often than not with Trek authors.
Not really. Mack has all but said outright that it was a total coincidence they made their own super-computer and used that same name as a reference to spy-genre lore, and the details (and many of the broad strokes) don't match up at all. Book-Control created itself (more or less) and was totally unknown, while TV-Control was consulted regularly by even non-spy admirals. Book-Control would ruthlessly act to preserve the greatest number of human (and later Federation) lives, while TV-Control cares only about itself and wants to kill all life because it's the only way to be sure it'll be unhindered.Wasn't Control from one of his books? I suppose they made it up to him if so...
Perhaps the new Picard series might visit 'Discovery', if not the Enterprise-D, perhaps Picard might command some other ship.
But, time is not a limit, how about if season 4 TNG crew visits 'Discovery'?
They all might need some heavy facelifting makeup though.![]()
Again, not saying it's perfectly workable, but it is possible, if difficult. And, perhaps this will be the show where the XO isn't on every landing party. But, I doubt it because narrative convenience.I really still don't think it could work.
