THE ORVILLE S2, E11: "LASTING IMPRESSIONS"

From one perspective, it is certainly a testament to the writing and acting that Laura was such a memorable character after just a single episode. I remember Leighton Meester from Surfacing (???) but not much else and I was really impressed with her acting here.

6 years on Gossip Girl?

If Gordon was really in love with (the real) Laura, he would invent Time Travel, go back to kill Greg and then trick her into reciprocating.

The whole time I was watching this episode, I kept thinking of the Futurama episode "Roswell That Ends Well." I kept thinking that either Greg was going to be Gordon's great-great-great et al grandfather, or Gordon would end up going back in time and impregnating Laura, being his own great-great-great et al grandfather. As the episode went on, I was thinking maybe I was wrong. BUT. The episode made it a point. AD NAUSEUM. BY GORDON HIMSELF. To let us know that the sum of the Laura program was based on her actual texts and photos. So, what happens at the end? Greg takes a picture of Gordon and Laura. Not only does he take a picture, but the show makes it a point to do the snap/photo sound and effect. The point? The Gordon/Laura pic is a part of her phone! At some point, Gordon HAS to go back and meet Laura. They also have to have sex. Ergo, Gordon is his own great-great-great et al grandfather!!!

Also of note, the Bortus and Klyden chainsmoker subplot was hilarious!

Gordon may not go back in time for Laura, but he might go back in time for her next phone, or just a bunch of other 21st century people's phones to keep under glass for in case of emergency.

The Orville is a gift to Seth, for how well Family Guy is doing, or Seth took a cut on "something" during family Guy negotiations 2 years ago, and there's still enough good will in the tank that The Orville can bomb and skate on through into season 3 no questions asked.

I'm not that optimistic. There's very little personal sentiment where the money in television is concerned.

One can hope.

As of yesterday, TV By The Numbers' The Cancel Bear has The Orville at a 3, which means "tossup between cancellation and renewal by May 2019".
We'll have to wait till MAY? I don't know how I can stand the suspense, I thought they said six weeks and that already was some weeks ago.

How much money are we actually talking about? Can't he just do it on his own? I hear he has a million or two in the bank account...
I promise to buy every merchandise they'll throw at me!

had never heard of Leighton Meester before the show so off to wiki then wondered if the song was written for the show or was existing material she'd written?

It was existing material; the song was featured in the movie The Last Unicorn, and was sung by Mia Farrow & Jeff Bridges.

Farrow voices the character, but Wikipedia says the vocals on the song are Katie Irving with Bridges on the album, and IMDb says Irving sings it in the film too (Katie Irving ... featured vocalist (uncredited) / singing voice: Mia Farrow (uncredited)).

Gordon used to take real women to the holodeck. (Deleted scenes from "Evolution" episode 3.01) ;)

Damn, Wesley sure was a wienie. I don't really remember that episode from the clip, wasn't expecting that woman to go crazy.

It was a deleted scene.

As much as I love Lieghton, couldn't someone else play that "game" and be drawn to Greg?

I don't have to "make the argument." I just watch it, and see what I see. And what I see is generally better than the kind of storytelling that Berman era Trek did.
Oh, how the times, and your tune, change. I remember you on this board as being a massive TNG apologist way back!

Any chance another network/company buys Orville? It wouldn't be the first time
