That's what happened? I didn't get that at all from the episode that the suit is now non-functional. Did they say that?

Yeah - not all that clearly in the midst of the pew, but the suit was damaged by Leland's phaser fire so when she was drawn back to the future (to coin a phrase) she wouldn't have a functional suit to come back.

Although I don't really understand the whole 'drawn back to a timeframe' thing. We've never seen that in Trek before even when people have been trapped in the past for long periods, and if it was a suit issue, why does it also apply to her personally?

Yeah, makes no sense that she personally would be yanked back by the wormhole and not merely the suit.

That just seems beyond stupid. So fan lingo is now being incorporated into the characters' dialog? It's akin to having a character calling Chris Pine's Kirk “NuKirk” in the movies, or someone in-universe saying “Discoprise” in reference to the Enterprise in Discovery.

Didn't even pick up on that but you're right - what a weird phrase. You wouldn't think of someone else's universe as Prime.


Not that these polls mean much, but I'm genuinely surprised that 7 people consider that episode a ten.

Giving this one a 7 as I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. The time travel stuff is confusing as fuck. Has it been stated why they don't just get rid of Control in the present? It's not quite sentient yet or needs something from the Sphere Data to attain its full potential so why not just unplug it or delete it whatever? I liked all the character moments though, and I like that the red bursts aren't being done by the red angel suit. Still some mystery to be had.

I don't get why Control needs the data anyway, it already appears perfectly capable of planning, deception, manipulation, anticipating others, desires and goals. What more does it need to be an AI?

Maybe it needs Marie Kondo's guide to decluttering to attain it's full potential?

Yeah, in the last scene he seemingly just enters Burnham's quarters without announcing himself first. Good thing she (or Tilly) wasn't in her undies.

It seems like a typical little brother thing to do. As a younger brother myself, i used to do this frequently to my older brother much to his annoyance.

Perhaps the writer of this episode has read a few threads here and decided to toss it in to put to rest the "Discovery isn't in the prime timeline" crowd. Hard to argue against now when one of the characters explicitly refers to it. Subtle as a sledgehammer.

Also, I'm not one to complain about the inconsistencies with tech but gee ... this red angel technology is light years ahead of what we saw in TNG.

If that's what Kurtzman means with “taking fan criticism seriously”, I much rather he ignores fans altogether. Having her say “Prime Universe” is one of the most stupidest things they could have a character say in order to make clear it's the regular Trek universe. And why the hell does anyone care anyway? Just tell your goddamn story, don't try to appease fans on the internet. I thought this show was produced with a general audience in mind, not merely Trek fanatics.

Yeah, it reminded me of that as well. Was kinda stupid then also, I think. But at least you could argue the prophets chose people as their avatars that had a relevance to the person they were talking to. Why would Control think it should appear as Saru of all people to Leland?

I don't think they can prove the idea of time travelers from the future going back to try to fix the past and prevent the world from being destroyed is unique enough to be copyrighted.

Loved the ep. The acting is amazing, this is by far the best acted ST series ever!
If Leland DOES turn out to be the origins of the Borg, I wouldn’t mind. As long as he somehow travels back in time to the Delta Quadrant.. I think that would be cool and ironic.

I wouldn't mind either if this turns out to be the origins of the borg, but I hope that will be that and they don't touch anything borg related on Trek ever again.

Can't say this was my favourite episode though. It was a mess of an episode, with too much going on and most of it adding nothing to the story. Kinda felt like the mess that was the end of season one.

The importance of the sphere data to control was kinda explained a couple of episodes back. Something to do with having all that AI data so control would have a strategic advantage, would never be out thought and would always win. This paves the way for it to destroy all sentient life. I have no idea why this become control wanting to become sentient or fully concious, maybe it just sounds more interesting.

It seemed to be appearing as people he'd had beef with. Leland had conflict with Pike, got punched in the face by Burnham, and verbally teabagged by Saru.

Plus, this is nitpicking, but isn´t it a little strange Klingons in their previous episode didn´t mention one of the signals was just next to their holy place?

Don't the signals appear, disappear, and then re-appear in different places? I don't think there was a red signal there the whole time, just that it appears now and they go to investigate it.

The ep was okay. Not bad. Not great.
For me the problem was the ad for the next show. I can't believe they are going to go back to the Klingon baby story line. I had honestly hoped there was friction in the writer's room and it was one writer's turn....and well that was the story he wanted to tell. Half Human/Half Klingon male, with former Empress from another universe, get involved in Klingon politics after joining super secret security organization. He finds out he is a father after a medically supported pregnancy with the new Klingon leader.

It was so bad it goes up there with "Home Soil", "Charlie X", and "Spock's Brain" in my opinion. Like I hated that episode.

I have to admit......I am not looking forward to next week. I hope the writers prove me wrong, but this subplot is just bad in my opinion.

I didn't mind Point of Light as much as some people here did, but one piece of good news for you next week is that it's written by Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt, writers of 2 of the best episodes of the series (Into The Forest I Go and The Sound Of Thunder).

Also, I noticed a couple of people asking how Burnham's mom could possibly move a church. I'm pretty sure she just moved the people in order to see if she could change the timeline. Unless I'm mis-remembering something from New Eden, it's entirely possible the New Eden humans built the church themselves on their new planet. How she managed to take a group of people with her to a new time has yet to be explained. We'll see if it ever is explained though as it definitely appears the answer to the red angel mystery changed after the Berg/Harberts firing.

Obviously that dialog of mama Burnham and Georgiou was kinda funny in intent. "You wouldn´t believe what you are capable to do for your friends. I have seen these episodes, wonderful episodes of your own show, only on CBS Access after Star Trek Discovery season 3!".
