Last season, when it was unveiled that the Spore Drive could jump between alternate universes, I thought it was a cool idea if Discovery very briefly ended up in a universe where everything looked TOS-like in terms of aesthetics, someone made a comment that "nope, this is the wrong place" and they kept on sliding through. Of course one could interpret the scene to mean they weren't in the prime universe to begin with, but it would be a nice little love letter to fans - which is all the TOS revival episodes like Relics and Trials and Tribble-ations were supposed to be.
I do not, however, look kindly upon the idea they're considering resetting the timeline wholesale, rather than just moving between alternate universes. Even if you presume plot armor protects the main cast members - that they retain their memories and identities (a must I think, because they wouldn't be thrown together without the Klingon War in season 1) you'd still be leaving behind the relationships with a host of secondary characters, and potentially invalidating all of their actions in the first two seasons. From a dramatic standpoint, it's a terrible choice.
Of course, one could argue if they jump the crew 1,000 years in the future much the same thing ends up happening. It's so far in the future that any impact of their earlier actions is basically lost to the sands of time. And everyone else they now is dead. It would be a bold move.
