The Casting of this series is extremely bad

Not everyone is totally bad, there are 2 or 3 exceptions but the overwhelming majority of main (MAIN!) characters are either obnoxious or dull. It's hard to manage that even on a low budget so whoever is responsible for casting is just bad at their job.

I agree. There are a few people that I like, but Burnham I can't stand. There is nobody in the crew as annoying as her. She is so bad that I can't say it enough. I would place her likeness at the very bottom in the entire Star Trek universe.

And here I was thinking there was one thing that everyone agreed on with this show. Even the resident detractors and purveyors of memes agree this is a well cast show.

For my part, I think it is probably Discovery's strongest attribute. Each character is perfectly cast, even the ones I'm not keen on.

Well, since this will continue on-this is one of the few Star Trek casts that I don't feel like skipping over because a particular character is on screen. I think they all have a unique identity and provide an interesting chemistry. There are very few characters that I don't want to see in an episode.

More than that it is a rather striking example of how the show continues to create conversation.

I've never liked Sonequa's acting. Not on Once Upon A Time, not on The Walking Dead, and not on Discovery. She has an emotive face but other than that I find her wooden.

I loved Tilly in Season 1 but I find her even more annoying than Burnham in Season 2. Mary Wiseman can act but she's a one trick pony.

No issues with anyone else in the cast as far as acting goes but the only characters I like are Georgiou, Pike and Lorca. I pretty much loved everyone in the other Trek shows apart from shitty characters like Chakotay and the other charisma vacuums who just made up the numbers like Mayweather. I even loved the recurring characters, especially on DS9.

I would disagree that either Wiseman or the character of Tilly are one trick ponys, from both Wiseman's performance both in Disco and in other series as well as how we've seen Tilly respond to various different and stressful situations. Sure the character has a baseline, but we've seen a lot more than just that. Just her scene after being kidnapped into the Mycenial realm showed us her what kind of range she has in the space of 30 seconds.

Who was it? Have they casted before? If they casted before was it done well? Are there examples of them casting something in a good way? Because if there is, I don't know what happened now.

I'm just so glad you walked in here with a personal opinion and stated is as a general fact. Something that never happens on the internet. Like..... ever........

The one area in which Discovery has been consistently amazing, is it's casting. I also think the Cast give consistently great performances each week. The people criticising Sonequa Martin-Green constantly seem to forget that even experienced actors Like Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks. Kate Mulgrew, Nana Visitor and Alexander Siddig often gave performances that ranged from hammy to down right terrible at times. No one is perfect, But SMG does really well with the material. Does she have room to improve, of course, because acting like any other skill develops over time, even for people who've been in the game for decades.

Casting Rebecca Romijn as Number One was ... well odd. Why cast someone that talented, and then bearly use them?

More strange casting than bad though. They could have just gone with a average no name actress

Everyone agent Hollywood knows that when you need a character to eat a hamburger, Romijn is the first person you call.

That, and the season isn't over yet and she's coming back with the Enterprise.

The casting is IMO the single biggest strength of this show. Not the writing or characterisations mind you - but the casting is absolute top-notch. In fact, it might be one of the best put-together ensembles in the whole Star Trek franchise, it's truly the excellent casting that elevates a lot of otherwise clunky dialogue and characterisations.

The only criticism I could kinda' see is that SMG is not as captivating a lead actress than other Trek shows had. She's actually pretty good - but she's not stealing every scene she's in like Mulgrew, Brooks, and even Bakula (when he's in the right mood) did, never mind Shatner and Steward.

But she's still damn well above the curve, when you look at other lead characters on other shows, like the rebooted McGyver or Magnum, she got a lot more to offer. In fact, the only problem is that every single damn one on this show is so good, that they are having a hard time to have a single "star" shine as a main character - because literally everyone is someone's favourite character and stealing it's own little show.

(Also - Doug Jones got an Oscar. For acting.)

I think the casting is pretty good, I am starting to get a little tired of Burnham, bit that's not because of sonequa (who plays the role well) but moreso I just don't really like having a "main character"

There were plenty of episodes of say, DS9 where we saw sisko for 60 seconds at the beginning, then Garak, O'Brian and Worf went of on an adventure, and Quark had the B plot with guest star alien.

It's just a variety thing for me.

I think the ensemble cast as a whole, are pretty strong.
Sure, there are some characters with minor traits that I find bothersome and over the top, like Tilly (but I still like her) and Stamets (Ditto).
I'm not entirely sure about New Saru, or Spock (but it's early).
Pike and Georgiou are off the scale excellent, and Burnham divides opinion, I like more of her than I dislike.
Only real problem for me is with Tyler, I guess I just can't be arsed looking at his whingeing face anymore, no offence Shaz.

That's a valid point.

I think it's a shame they didn't intend on keeping Lorca as captain/not from the Mirror Universe. Jason Isaacs was absolutely magnetic. t would have been interesting to see the dynamic between Lorca and a restored to rank Burnham in Season 2.
