Picard, Riker, Worf, and Data are always on the bridge together during most of the episodes. I know it wouldn't make sense to have a tv show without all the stars interacting, but who is in charge of the night shifts, etc. They can't work 20 hours a day. Although Picard seems like he has a really pathetic existence, so maybe he is on duty the entire time. You would think the captain, first, and second officers would all have different shifts.
Indeed. Troi is supposed to have many counseling appointments in her office. Data doesn't need any breaks, but even he needs some time for his hobby activities.
In some of the episodes, like Data's Day, they show shift changes, but it seems like in most of the episodes they are all together. Imagine how boring it must be for all of them just to be sitting in their chairs for the entire shift. Picard seems like he would be a stickler for making everyone sit quietly. Or do you think he would be looking at porn in his ready room the entire time like he typically is on most episodes?
Picard? No, he would enjoy female company on the Holodeck. It is more Barclay, who enjoys secretly Holoporns one might think......
Every time anyone enters the ready room, Picard quickly clicks his computer screen off so the incoming person will not see what was on it.
One would think that most unexpected things (like the ones some episodes are based on) would happen when the main cast is off duty.
Main one for TNG generally: why does a top-of-the-range exploration starship – the Federation flagship no less – not have a science officer on the bridge? Even a backwater space station like DS9 had a science officer assigned to their senior staff to sit in the station control room, and that was before the stable wormhole was discovered...
Actually, they never say there was nothing onboard aside from the flute. Riker just said whatever was locking on him had apparently terminated, meaning the technology that was forcing him to experience that life. It doesn't mean there weren't books, a bunch of database, etc wasn't onboard. I always figured that the box with the flute was placed prominently in a way that Riker decided it was meant for the Captain. Data wasn't himself. It's not like Issac going back on duty after the Kaylon incident that left hundreds of Union officers dead... I don't think it's the whole Starfleet. It's likely just a few Admirals and some officers who still see him that way. Picard, already a seasoned starship Captain, had no issues picking him as his second officer. We don't know that Data never earned more medals and other awards... Two things, it's about representation. Worf is from a major power who had been an enemy of the Federation for centuries, and he's the only Klingon in Starfleet. Also, the sash is a military accessory. Bajorans aren't a power and there are already other Bajorans in Starfleet. The earring has nothing to do with the Bajoran milita but a cultural accessory. Ro never passed as someone who was religious like Kira. This kind of thing happens all the time on tv shows. I wouldn't count this. It's common for the first season cast to seem wooden or off compared to years later. Look at other long-lived series like CSI or Big Bang Theory. It's weird rewatching the first season. Sheldon going after a woman in the pilot, and Grissom being flirty with a lab tech. And? It's about how people in his era perceives the military of the 20th Century...as backward, misguided and all that. I understood that as a 8 year old son of a military officer. Pulaski wasn't that bad. I did a TNG rewatch last year. Aside from a few scenes, the relationship between them was alright. I've seen more disrespectful and put downs behavior between two (or more) colleagues in real life. That's absurd. Why would she be an "temporary" admiral? Beverly never appeared to be more than a "run of the mill" CMO in 2360s Starfleet. Not always. Some of the stuff he was looking at may be for Captain's eyes only. Also, it's polite to turn off a screen when someone needs to talk...
In Sub Rosa, had Beverly stayed on the planet and continued her sexual escapades with Ronin and then died, would Ronin have tried to seduce Wesley when he showed up for Beverly's funeral?
That’s cause Ro Laren don’t pull people’s arms out of their sockets when they try to remove her culturally-relevant swag.
Worf wouldn't have done that either. If he had been told to remove the baldric, he would have done it without question. Which is exactly the reason why he never WOULD have been told to do so.
More specifically, they are there when the episode begins, and get through the adventure of the week together. This doesn't mean they would be on the bridge together most of the time. After all, statistically speaking, virtually every TNG adventure begins in medias res, with a situation already on. Naturally, Picard or Riker would have summoned their A Team to the bridge for the special occasion, sending the regulars to play dom-jot or something. When an episode for a rare once begins "idly", it's more likely than not that this is made explicit by only having a few of the main characters present. Say, on all those night shift starts (well, both of them). But an episode that begins with the ship about to arrive on a destination does not start "idly". That's exactly when Picard would have his A Team in place. Timo Saloniemi
Reminds me of a line in Jurassic World 2015, "Drones don't try to eat you when you forget to feed them."
I get the impression Picard is in his ready room when important things are not going on and when the Captain is not on the bridge the crew is more laid back age joking around workplace-appropriately. “Captain on the Bridge” basically means “Stop having fun and be rigid and formal!” I have sympathy for people who don’t immediately accept Data. They are wrong, but from their point of view (As opposed to our omniscient one) they are understandable. I think the Ro earring thing is a double standard because Worf is more respected. They are not as critical of him because of his better reputation.
"Man Of The People": Deanna gives Riker some nasty scratch on his face but his beard remains intact!! As anyone who got a bleeding scratch on a hairy part knows, the hair comes off!! I thought it was one of the lousiest special effects they came up with for the series.
