So basically if Chris has just kept his mouth shut and not gone to the dog man - I refuse to call him Wardog - about the Wentworth plan he'd still be in the game

Crazy how one bad move is all it takes

The chicken thing was just nuts, Wendy refusing to eat the them even though she eats chicken at home. Ugh. And then stealing hte flint. Also crazy how people can be so self damaging

So how crowded is Extinction Isle going to get before someone re-enters the game?

The chicken thing was ridiculous. Glad there is a team shakeup next week.

If I called that other guy Coach, I will call this guy Wardog.

Wendy is the one person in the game I'm 100% sure will not win. It's like she doesn't even realize she's in a social game, she's just in there to do whatever her emotions tell her to do, then get mad whenever it doesn't go her way.

Tai protected a chicken because he genuinely values all life. She just seems like if somebody served it to her after the show she wouldn't care and she's acting out on an emotional whim.

    What does this even mean?

Remember the season when the cast were told to dress up because they were going to a photo shoot, and they were really going to start the game? Some of the women were wearing nice dresses and some of the men were in suits (or at least had on a jacket and nice pair of pants). Some people interpreted "dress for a photo shoot" as "wear jeans" and those people discovered that wearing wet jeans in the jungle was a bad idea.

So they don't always get full choice of what they wear for the premiere.

    Why is she "aptly named"?

The only association I make with that name is because it's the short form for one of the characters in Jo Clayton's Diadem series of novels. The main character's mother's name is Shareem, and when they finally meet (Aleytys was abandoned as a baby on a backwater planet), Shareem tells Aleytys to call her "Reem").

Joe looks like a pirate and Reem likes to yell at/criticize people ("ream" them out).

Pirates look like models for romance novel covers?

Maybe a romance novel about falling in love with a pirate. :D

    I think there's a whole sub-genre of pirate romance novels. ;)

Come to think of it, there's even a Star Trek novel in that sub-genre (Black Fire, by Sonni Cooper).

    Currently halfway through the episode.

But I keep hoping they catch on camera the chickens getting caught by wild animals. :)

Alas, it didn't happen. But I hope Wendy gets voted out soon, because she is so annoying. I doubt Reem would have much patience with her at that other place.

I'm not feeling this season so far.

The Extinction Island angle means we're forced to revisit the people who were voted out first over and over again, when there's usually a good reason they got voted out first. So we get bitter Reem and bitter Keith being bitter with each new person that joins them on Bitter Island, and all of them are miserable because it's cold and rainy and they're starving. Oh joy.

Then you get people like Wendy who don't even seem to care about staying in the game or the consequences of their actions. If you were a player trying to get on the show watching from home her behavior with the chickens and total disregard for how it impacts her game must be driving you crazy.

Then between the excessive focus on the returning players, which is always the case, and the excessive focus of the Loser (sorry Lesu) Tribe's machinations after losing each challenge, there's a bunch of people on the other tribe(s) who have been barely getting any coverage at all.

Even among the players that aren't sabotaging their own game, or aren't bitter players we're now stuck with all season, or who didn't come prepared to play Survivor by learning to swim, or who aren't people we've seen before; even among the remainder, there hasn't really been anyone that stands out as particularly memorable or impressive so far, IMO.

All I can think about is how the casting director whose been with the show from the start got fired after this season was done filming. I don't know why she got fired, but it makes me wonder if this cast was so lackluster that it caused them to fire her for it.

It won't prevent me from watching going forward of course, because the show has had slumps before and then come back with great seasons, but I hope they can turn this one around soon, because it's been pretty mediocre so far.

Usually in Survivor lately I've found the first part boring then started liking it after the merge. I'm finding the first few episodes above average. There's way too many players whose names I don't know yet. But I don't think they spend too much time on Bitter Island, it's not consuming the episodes the way the Battle Backs did. And I don't think the camera is revolving around the returnees the same way it has in previous some-veterans seasons.

Is there a link where we can read about this?

I haven't seen that any of the cast is bad for reasons other than being boring or stupid. So far nobody has been aggressive or violent or displayed bigotry. Do any of them have some criminal background that the casting director didn't catch and they only found out after filming started?

It said the new person has been a Big Brother casting director and last two seasons of Amazing Race.

This makes me worry the firing is because the cast are too normal and not over the top drama queen narcissists. But Jeff getting more involved assuages some of my concern about that.

If Survivor starts getting the kind of casting BB and AR do I may finally lose interest.

Finally got around to watching this week. Was sorry to see what's his name go. He was one of the few people I've found interesting. but then we haven't even heard all the contestants speak yet I don't think.

The tribe shakeup was pretty underwhelming. All it did was give Wendy another week.

AND BRING BACK THE FUCKING SURVIVOR INTRO

I actually can't stand when they bring back just a few returning Survivors - either have every player a former Survivor, or none at all

    Interesting about the casting director

I'm willing to give the Extinction Island angle one more episode - next episode, when the people actually return to the game, and see how it shakes out then. "Bitter Island"

But yeah, this is a huge letdown after last season which for me was a top 5 season

What I found interesting here is after all the complaining about Wardog, his plan saved both their butts AND their idols.

I like Aubry’s reaction to Bitter Island. Like HOLY S*** these people are obnoxious. I hope she or Rick come back.
