A few questions. 1. What colour is her Marvel family super suit (in your mind)? 2. (Also) Skirt, shorts, or pants? I've also heard good things (from women) about "rompers"... Shit. Please DC, don't put Mary in a **cking Onesie like a hipster doushbag.
Sure, sure. Whatever you say. (Nudge, nudge, wink, wink. Know what I mean. ) Not all that different than my wife setting me up on a “movie date” with her employee. Neither she nor her employee’s husband had any interest in seeing Batman Begins. Was a pleasant “date”. So, enjoy.
Mary, Eugene, Pedro, and Darla are all in the movie, but we don't know if they will get their powers.
Not really familiar with the history of Shazam! But if anyone can pull off the "Kid in an adult body" gag it's Zachary Levi. He was great in "Chuck" and hard to recognize but good in the Thor movies. From what they have shown in the commercials it looks like a fun ride.
Yay - Variety’s review is positive: https://variety.com/2019/film/reviews/shazam-review-zachary-levi-1203166877/ And so is Empire’s: https://www.empireonline.com/movies/shazam/review/ And Screencrush: https://screencrush.com/shazam-review/
Just got back from seeing it (some weird two week early Saturday only preview). And it was fun! Best part was hearing kids laughing and enjoying it too. That's what Superhero movies should be. Fun for everyone. Like the comics we grew up on.
Nope. Superhero movies should be free to be like any other kind of movie. In other words superhero movies don't have to be like anything. Each one is the vision of the filmmakers.
From someone who's seen it, does it take place in a universe that references the events of other DC movies, or is it 100% standalone?
It's definitely in the DC universe, but also definitely stands alone. References to characters but not events.
I was reading comics in the late 80s and I assure you that they were quite dark and definitely NOT fun... (Except Justice League).
There was one issue of Giffen's Justice League, where Batman shows up wearing the costume from the Tim Burton movie.
I guarantee they weren't about Shazam (Captain Marvel), though. I erred in saying all superhero comics, obviously Punisher, Hellblazer and Watchmen are not going to be translated the same as Shazam, Plastic Man and Superman (should). Yes, you CAN tell darker stories with the latter. But for a blockbuster movie, why turn away future fans of these characters for edginess that pleases the selfish older fans? And reviews of Shazam seem to be agreeing.
