I didn't even know we were talking about the idea of banning Trek. If we started banning stuff in life that is connected or created by some really messed up people then it means pretty much everything has to go because our society was basically created, shaped and molded by racist, sexist and all sorts of people who did bad things. Everthing from our entertainment to our medicine has been touched.

I'm afraid not. He went there to get Rice off the hook and didn't seem sorry about what he tried to do to the woman. He seemed to consider her the villain of all this. Rice thanked him...

I have not read this entire thread but if the two posts above are any indication it has gone waaaay off topic.

    Anyway.....
I saw Captain Marvel over the weekend. It was the worst of the MCU movies so far, IMO. They tried hard to make it be their "Wonder Woman" but all we got was a stoic (read that as boring) Superman knock off. Brie just walks around with a blank expression on her face most of the movie. I never felt she was in trouble, ever. Every time it looked like she was in trouble, BOOM, new superpower is discovered, problem averted.

While I had to see this to be up to date on all of the background stories of the "supers" I think this could have been much much better. This bounced "Thor: Ragnarock" out of last place. I was only impressed by the CGI to make Sam Jackson look younger. But the eye jokes were dumb. All I could think about was Lenny on the Simpsons "My doctor said not to get pudding in my eye."

There's a separate grading & discussion thread, where you can go give it an F or whatever.

Not sure the Orville is the safest bet. After all, it's another interpretation of Star Trek, which means it could carry the same taint.

That's a Writers Guild thing. Because Rodenberry wrote the pilot he would always get the "created by" credit. That's true of any show. Including a show that may have been written by one writer but is actually be run by other producers who are the creative guiding force.

Rodenberry is credited as creating TNG, but, let's be honest, it was Michael Pillar and others who really made it what it was.

On the subject of Brie, I was concerned her performance was going to be charisma-free based on the trailers. But she definitely wasn't charisma-free in the movie. She delivered and those trailers did her a disservice.

I felt the same. Especially her connection to/chemistry with Maria and Monica (and Yon Rogg) was really great.

Agreed. And she was really good with SLJ as well.

If I recall correctly, I believe Andromeda was also credited as "Created by Gene Roddenberry" even though he obviously had nothing to do with the production (since it was made after his death), but he's credited as so because it was based on his story ideas.

Well, I suppose it was a good PR move, too.

It is good PR, but, there's not much of a choice. The WGA wouldn't have allowed it be credited otherwise.

Going tonight. Have heard mixed things, so I’m lowering my expectations, which generally means I end up pleasantly surprised if something is good.

The new Lost in Space gives a "created by" credit to Irwin Allen, even though he's been dead since 1991.

That's interesting but talking about Captain Marvel is a little off topic. That should taking place over in the "Walking Dead" thread instead. Because they are kind of being off topic as well by talking about Walking Dead there instead of the Trump with Pet Monkey thread where it belongs.

    That's a gross exaggeration.

That us, however, a terribly convenient rationalization.

TNG producers stopped listening to him while he was still in the hospital. They dropped his "no conflict between the crew" rule as soon as he was out the door. It's beautiful that you believe the myth though.

That's sort of what happened. RIck Berman was still all in on the Roddenberry rules even though he didn't even believe in them or care about them. It was a really crazy box he wanted to keep the writers in even when the only person who would care was dead. In fact it's one of the things that kind of sinked Trek. Even when "Enterprise" came out they were still sort of following the Roddenberry rules. I think it's because it saw Trek like McDonalds. Keep making the same meal over and over and over because people like it not realizing people soon might want the product to change. for more variety.
