If CBS did a post-DS9 Short Trek, what would you want to see?

So, I realized - since the Picard show is on its way now, that the new CBS Short Treks format would be an ideal way to "catch up" with the 24th century, basically checking in on various characters from the TNG/DS9/VOY and doing little vignettes about them.

Say they did one dealing with DS9 in particular. What would you most like to see ?

I like that idea. Short Treks was nicely executed, and I'd love it if we had three or four stories in the 24th century with just enough of a hint of how things are.

The folks at Deep Space Nine helping with the Pathfinder project (they mentioned working with DS9 in Voyager's Pathfinder). I

I’d rather the current Trek creative teams were kept well away from DS9. What they’re doing to TOS is bad enough.

Nah, they're doing a great job by my measure.

I'd love to see them tackle some DS9 stuff. It's the one Trek show that tends to get swept under the rug, and it's my third-favorite after TOS and DSC at this point. I say bring it!

I wouldn't mind seeing what became of Cardassia after the war. I always found the Cardassians one of the least-monolithic "bad guy" empires in Trek.

I would like to see how the Cardassians and the Federation/Klingon/Romulan Alliances are doing. And little bit exploring the Gamma quadrant

I don't see how this is done in the Short Treks format, unless you go all Prelude to Axanar. I mean, it needs to have a focus character and a plot arc. Given the max run time is likely 20 minutes, there really wouldn't be time for an infodump.

I presume it would involve Ira Steven Behr just writing an episode. Considering his work on the documentary he's obviously still geeked out about the show and the characters. I'm guessing he could come up with a half dozen different story concepts following up on particular characters off the top of his head.

This would be my own preference. In large part because it provides an excuse to get back to Garak. I highly doubt he's still active in Cardassian government, but a short from his own POV. Maybe one which begins with Bashir visiting him on Cardassia for the first time in years. Plus, we could canonically establish that Garak was queer, as the character was meant to be.

Hell, that could be the workings of a fantastic little short. Garak growing older and frailer, possibly dying, calling Julian to see him. Bashir thinks it's about needing his his medical background to help devise a treatment for his condition, but really there's a few things that Garak is finally willing to get off his chest - a few truths which will finally escape among the many lies.

I would like to see an exclusive medical tale starring Nurse Jabara. Either a short adventure of saving a life on New Bajor or something unique in the Infirmary on Deep Space Nine; it could even be a flashback tale which gave me a backstory on this interesting character.

If they did a Short Trek about DS9, I guarantee it wouldn't look anything like DS9. I really have no desire to see a 20-year-older cast, just like I really had no desire to see Picard again.

DS9 was - fundamentally - about the characters. If you don't follow up on the characters, there's no reason to ever do an epilogue.

I mean, there's no way in hell they're rebuilding the promenade after all, so we won't actually get to see the station.

Exactly. A short trek ds9 would be so expensive to rebuild ds9 or a portion of ds9 just for a fifteen minute episode. Even Discovery shorts were 'budget' shows using an existing set or one that could be redone quickly

Maybe they could set it on Bajor or something to help with costing? Also one or two characters would be fine in each one. Could just have four episodes like the first bunch. Wouldn't necessarily have to be all DS9 characters either?

They could do it for Voyager as well. Or combine both into one series?
