Red Angel Theories- Post Here

It's a Valentine to the fans.

* All kidding aside, Brannon Braga just co-wrote (with Andre Bormanis) the latest Kaylon episode of The Orville, which was awesome, and the second part tonight, so mad props.

Oh yeah. I greatly enjoyed Identity part 1. However like most episodes of the Orville, I generally felt reminded of previous Trek installments. In this case, The Best of Both Worlds and Descent. That said, I'm not expecting a Berma-Trek style reset of the status quo tonight.

Well Isaac's actor is sticking around for the rest of the season, so whatever resolution there is tonight I'd bet real money on a happily-ever-after

OK, my guess is the Red Angel is Michael from the future.

However, I've seen stuff that maybe she's the AI from that Short Treks episode...

This latest episode with all the future Discovery tech lent more credence to the idea that the Red Angel might be the AI "Zora" manipulating events in the past to ensure her creation in the future.

The 28th century is also where Future Guy comes from, though that's in all likelihood just a coincidence.

Or IS it?

Yeah, probably.

Zora downloaded into Airiam who then gets put back in the ship computer and ordered to hide in some dust cloud forever so the cycle can repeat.

I'm starting to wonder if it could be Burnham (or other female crew member) from the time-lost crew we didn't see in the Short Trek. She's using a suit cobbled together by Jett to try to avert the catastrophe that led to the Discovery being lost, or to get them back home.

By that I don't mean it will be a distant future version of Burnham. The catastrophe happens soon, so the season folds in on itself. The latest episode kinda sets that up.

That ties together a lot of the clues we have, anyway. Jett seems too conspicuous an addition, with too specific a skill set, not to prove more important than she has been so far.

Guess it's not Data's head up there on Mars, after all.

Poor Airiam....

Also, I wonder if the Red Angel's wings are tentacles like on the Matrix probe thing. Maybe that's future tech that Jett uses to build the suit.

io9’s theory:
“What if the Red Angel isn’t a time traveler but a Talosian attempting to save species and groups of people to bring them to Talos as prisoners they could base new illusions on, just as they’d wanted to do to Pike and his crew? What if it’s Pike and Spock specificallythat it’s trying to lure back there with the signals?”

i kind of buy it, but i don’t think it’s right.

Well, people are already erroneously saying that anyway, so might as well go all in.

"No."
"But why?"
"Because [they] wish it."

I'm seriously convinced they want Burnham to be the Red Angel only so they can say "Look at how much of a Mary Sue she is!" They'll act upset or outraged but they'll secretly (or not so secretly) be glad the show is making their argument for them.

For this reason, I hope it's not Burnham. I hope it's Zora.

So, one minor quibble. Did it bother anyone else that in the episode last week, everyone concluded the Red Angel must have been from the future, because it had advanced tech?

I mean, I know the plot seems to be going that way. But there are thousands of races in the galaxy, all with different rates of technological development. Overall galactic tech should not be "futuristic" 500 years hence. Similarly, a lot of races should have technology which is already thousands of years more advanced than the Federation.
