I think things have really regressed. Setting aside DSC itself for a moment, I posted on Star Trek bulletin boards in the '90s and I don't remember the reaction to VOY being more female-dominant being as extreme as the reaction to DSC. With Janeway, Torres, and Seven all having roles that normally would've gone to men, Naomi Wildman being the prodigy, and Borg Queen becoming the Big Bad. You had complaints about how "It's too PC!" but that was nowhere near as bad as "SJWs!!!" You had some sexist remarks or subtly sexist remarks but now it seems so much worse. Then you had an Tuvok, Kim, and Chakotay. A black, an Asian, and a Mexican playing a Native American. The only two white males were Paris and The Doctor. Neelix was in full alien make-up.
DS9 was the same. Three black leads, two women, only four white males. And of those four white males, Quark and Odo were in full alien make-up. All you had were O'Brien and Bashir.
But I DO NOT remember people complaining about White Males' very existence and presence being threatened during the DS9/VOY years. I do not. The main complaints were "DS9 is on a space station! It's a soap opera! Gene didn't want a show about war!" and the complaints about VOY were "It's warmed-over TNG! It's the temporal anomaly show! It's the Seven of Nine Hour! Janeway is inconsistent!"
Now, with DSC, suddenly it's all a political agenda, some say. "They killed white male Connolly!" "Pike is the Token White Guy!" On and on and on. It's ridiculous. Made more ridiculous by the fact that when called about how diverse previous Star Trek was, they say, "That was different!"
If someone has an issue with Discovery because of writing, how it's directed and produced, or even stupid stuff like canon, fine. I get that. Fair enough. I've been posting on Trek boards for 23 years. I know how it is. But this crap about "SJWs!" and "The Liberal Agenda" needs to stop.
